Believe it or not cleaning out the chicken coop is not my most loathsome chore to do AND it is by far one of my dirtiest jobs I do. LOL. It’s the consistency of doing it that allows for the ease, and I do have to say the love of it, now.
Some children love cleaning their room, brushing their teeth, getting dressed in the morning, taking care of pets… And most do not, at some time in their development. What’s the most important thing? Consistency, consistency, consistency
This is how I came to like, washing the dishes. There was a time that I would let the dishes go. And my lovely husband (at the time) would point out that the dishes, were still sitting in the sink. Although, his pointing out did not help get the dishes done, it did bring it more often to my attention, (as if I did not notice) because I would put it out of my mind. For some children, they put it out of their mind at all costs, to not remember to do the task at hand because it has become so loathsome to them. No matter, how many times the child’s parent, caregiver, teacher, or other significant being has reminded them.
Try not to take it too personal. Remember, work can feel like play when we find joy in doing it, like me cleaning out the chicken coop.
Start with one task where your child is an active participant, make a routine and keep it as consistent as possible, to make it easier on your child and in the long run easier on you.
