Driven by Alana's wild violin, chased by accordion and double bass, Vardos play gypsy and traditional music learnt from Roma (Gypsy) musicians during their travels in Eastern Europe. They have been serenading audiences around the world for almost 20years.
Vardos have toured to every state in Australia; festivals include the National, Port Fairy, Illawarra, Cobargo and Fairbridge Folk Festivals, the Queenscliff Music Festival, the Alice Desert Festival, Dark MoFo Festival in Hobart and the Melbourne Festival where they launched the CD 'Entertaining Countess Dracula' to a sell-out crowd at the Famous Spiegeltent. They have also performed at the Falls Festival in Marion Bay, Tasmania and Lorne, Victoria and Harvest Festival, Victoria.
In Melbourne they have supported 'Besh o Drom' and 'Antal Szalai Gypsy Band' (both from Hungary), 'Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club' at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre Melbourne and the 'Gipsy Kings' at the Palais, St Kilda.
"Alana Hunt’s soaring violin, Indra Buraczewska’s slapped double bass and Sofia Chapman’s supple accordion combine on a collection of 17 Hungarian and Romanian tunes and songs that show us that their frequent visits to Eastern Europe have made them a truly exciting band." Lucky Oceans, The Planet

Classical Guitar - Jonathan Prag
Fri 4 Mar - 8:00 PM
Adult: $23.00, Companion Card, Concession: $21.00

Jonathan returns to Hats Fringe with more beautiful guitar music. Last here in 2014, Jonathan wowed audiences with his dynamic musicality and vibrant, expressive playing. Jonathan has had a busy year in 2015 touring to venues in the UK and performing at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he appeared on Scottish Television’s daily round-up.
Jonathan will be playing a programme that includes some of the gems of the classical guitar repertoire like the ‘Prelude, Fugue and Allegro’ by Bach, and the stunning ‘Catedral’ by Barrios. He is also playing one of the masterpieces of the contemporary era, Koshkin’s dramatic ‘Usher Waltz’. There will be all the toe-tapping excitement of Latin rhythms from Argentina and also music from Japan, Ireland and Greece - a veritable musical feast ‘…superb classical guitarist’ [Krysztoff RAW], ‘…most impressive’ [The Scotsman]
‘…wonderfully textured and expressive - Prag’s technique is close to flawless.’[Broadway Baby] ‘
An intimate setting and superb classical guitarist, filling the courthouse with music that at times carries you away – a very pleasant way to spend an evening. The whole ‘up close’ thing, a guitar that is alive with warmth and seemingly a part of the musician’s body, and music – what a privilege to be a part of such a simple and yet exquisite experience that’s what to expect at a Jonathan Prag Hats Courthouse concert. www.jonathanprag.com
