About the workshop

Although many Dance for PD students welcome the support and safety that a seated warmup offers, a growing number of participants are interested in exploring the possibilities of an all-standing class. Since 2016, Dance for PD has offered a weekly Dance for PD PRO class that leads participants through a series of safe, supportive standing activities. In the studio and on Zoom, the PRO model has attracted Young Onset Parkinson's participants as well as long-time group members who are simply seeking a more challenging experience.

In this workshop, Janelle Barry, an expert Dance for PD teaching artist and co-developer of the PRO program, will share approaches that support participants as they navigate the joys and challenges of an all-standing class. After an experiential warm-up, Janelle will use video samples from actual PRO classes and our new PRO DVD to offer strategies you can use to create a safe and enjoyable standing experience for those who seek it. Breakout rooms will offer an opportunity to explore ideas with other teaching artists from around the globe, and a Q&A session will provide a chance to address any concerns about this type of class.

Join us as Janelle, Maria and David share approaches that can help you better serve the diverse range of needs and preferences in your community.
