It's that time of year again

But the thing is, we're just not comfortable doing the traditional year-end fundraiser email. At this point, we're supposed to tell you all the great things we've been doing all year. But since we were doing them all with you, we did it together, you were THERE––we'd prefer to thank YOU for everything you've done this year; then tell you about all the important events coming up (like we do every week), and then get on with all the work that remains. As anyone who's heard us speak knows, we say this all the time, because it's true: People show up just when you need them. It's been true since we started; fairy godmothers and godfathers have appeared at all the right moments (and yes, are still needed). In that spirit, if you are moved to donate, then we are very grateful, and we know it's because you are part of and believe in this team.

SO, FIRST: THANKS FOR SHOWING UP ALL YEAR!

And thank you, this guy, for another year of outstanding photography!

All along the way, too many people to name have shown up at exactly the right time: The scientists and medical professionals; the writers, bloggers and journalists; the artists, performers, and musicians; the lawyers, analysts and advisors; the photographers and videographers whose work has been featured here every week. Our fellow activists, newcomers, and those who brought along their friends, family and neighbors into the fight! THANKS FOR SHOWING UP WHEN WE NEEDED YOU! If the work we do is the kind of work you like seeing done, we appreciate your support, in any way, shape or form, and at any time you are able to give it!

SECOND: HERE'S WHERE TO SHOW UP NEXT YEAR:

A panel discussion and demonstration of the You Are Here shale gas infrastructure map, How NYS is Being Fracked NOW: The Infrastructure Invasion is hosted by upstate map contributors and grassroots organizers with speakers from Frack Free Catskills, Stop the Pipeline, Shaleshock, and PAUSE, discussing infrastructure projects from the Seneca Storage caverns, to the Constitution and NED pipelines, to oil trains, and more. THIS IS THE ONLY NEW YORK HEARING FOR PORT AMBROSE LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), a threat to New York's coastal communities and economies. This proposed marine facility would enable terrorist-attracting tanker ships to pull up to deepwater buoys and unload dangerous and polluting LNG. Not only is LNG 40% more polluting than even fracked gas (itself a climate changer 86 times worse in its heat-trapping effect than carbon dioxide), this project is suggested for the same location a proposed wind farm should go.

Governor Cuomo has veto power over this port and CAN STOP IT. Even Governor Christie (no one's idea of an environmentalist) has vowed to veto this project. Get details for the hearing and transportation here. The hearing is reachable by chartered bus, LIRR or subway/city bus. The hearing begins at 6pm; an open house starts at 4:30pm; buses leave 8th Avenue and 34th Street at 2pm. Learn more about Port Ambrose here with our in-depth resource page. Sign the petition demanding Governor Cuomo veto this project.

STOP PORT AMBROSE; STOP CRESTWOOD! Governor Cuomo is getting credit for banning fracking, and we're grateful he allowed Commissioner Martens and Doctor Zucker to do their jobs. Now we need him to show leadership on a project where he has true veto power, that HE CAN STOP: Port Ambrose. We also want his influence to be brought to bear in stopping the Seneca Lake Salt Caverns from being used to store explosive gases. Find a bus here. Please note: Buses that had been scheduled to travel from Manhattan and Brooklyn to Albany are now diverted to Queens for the Port Ambrose hearing.

YAH STP

The STP crew along the proposed route

Things are heating up with the Constitution pipeline: Yesterday, a request for a rehearing was filed with FERC. This is a necessary first step before the expected lawsuit can be filed. And now there's an opening with an agency other than FERC, one that has recently shown some spine: The NYS DEC can stop the project by denying a required 401 water quality certificate.

Tell the DEC that the pipeline would:
• Violate New York State water quality standards.
• Tear through 277 streams, ponds, rivers, more than 10 miles of wetlands.
• Clear-cut 1000 acres of forest (which naturally filters water).
• Cross 45 trout and trout spawning streams 84 times, threatening fish and their habitat.

DEC has agreed to hold three public hearings: All hearings start at 6pm.
Monday, January 12th: East Middle School Auditorium, 167 East Frederick St., Binghamton
Tuesday, January 13th: SUNY Oneonta Lecture Hall IRC #3 108 Ravine Parkway, Oneonta
Wednesday, January 14th: SUNY Cobleskill Bouck Hall Theater State Route 7, Cobleskill
Bring signs • Bring your friends • Speak!
Instructions for written comments (due by January 30th) will be available soon.

Sane Energy Project and Food Not Fracking present A Panel Discussion and Book Signing:
The Landscape of Fracking in New York; What's Changed and What Hasn't.

The announcement that DEC will prohibit fracking in NYS may lead some to believe that now we're "safe." However, pipelines, compressor stations, storage caverns and LNG facilities have been and remain the current threat. "The Real Cost of Fracking” authors, Michelle Bamberger and Robert Oswald, will demonstrate why such infrastructure may actually be WORSE than drilling in its health impacts on humans, animals, and our food shed. You Are Here, a new online mapping tool, will demonstrate how New York is already being fracked in every way BUT the drilling. Local activists join a panel discussion about current infrastructure projects and what is being done to stop them. FREE. 4-6pm, Sunday, January 18th at the beloved independent Brooklyn bookstore, Bookcourt, 163 Court St, Brooklyn (F/G train to Bergen, most trains to Jay Street or Borough Hall). Light refreshments will be served. RSVP here.

Happy New Year--Peace, Love & Sane Energy in 2015!
