Trio of reasons to be cheerful
Springhill Care Group is celebrating after receiving the news that we have been shortlisted for three awards in the 2015 Be Inspired Business Awards (BIBAs).
The BIBAs are Lancashire’s largest and longest-running business awards, and recognise and celebrate the best in local business.
We’ve been named finalists in the Business of the Year,Service Business of the Year and Excellence in Customer Service categories. We will now receive a visit from the judges as part of the rigorous judging process.
At the 2014 finals we were awarded two awards, so let’s hope we can repeat that success and more at this years’ awards ceremony, which will be held at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom on September 11 later this year.
Well done to all involved and let’s keep our fingers crossed for further success

Fundraising for Dementia Awareness Week
Last week a number of great activities took place across Springhill Care Group to mark Dementia Awareness Week.
This topic is so close to our heart we have been pulling out all the stops to support the Alzheimer’s Society and raise funds for this great cause at the same time.
We’d like to welcome Virginia Perkins to the Springhill Group, who joins as our new head of human resources.
Virginia, who is known as Ginny, will deal with the welfare of staff across the entire Springhill group. She has extensive experience, having completed a masters in HR and is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development as well as a qualified Accredited Workforce Conflict Mediator.
She will be responsible for the day to day management of employees, overseeing training and development, ensuring policies and procedures are up to date while developing strategic solutions to support company objectives.

Stuart sets the questions
At Affinity we understand the importance of including the people we support in all the important decisions we make as a business, and recruitment is no different.
Recently we have been holding interviews for new support workers, and Stuart, one of the gentlemen we support, took part in the process.
Ryan and William, two of the gentlemen we support at Affinity Supporting People, recently ventured into Blackburn for a day out.
After they enjoyed a spot of lunch in the lovely sunshine, a couple of games of bowling were played at the Bowlplex, which saw our gents scoring several strikes each.
Let’s hope we get plenty more sunny days this summer.

Divine afternoon at Birch Green
At Birch Green we are firm believers in the benefits of therapy based activities.
Recently we welcomed the lovely team from Divine Days, a community interest group which encourages health and wellbeing through a person centred approach to activities and workshops.

Bags of fun at Riversway
Creative residents at Riversway have begun a new arts and crafts project which will include several stages before completion.
Residents are making their own bags and the first stage was to paint pieces of fabric containing patterns of owls, flowers and tea sets. Soon we will be moving onto making the straps, which will also be painted and customised.
As part of the Dementia Awareness Week activities that took place here at Springhill Care Home last week, residents and staff enjoyed their very own bake off.
Staff grinned and bared their legs for a sponsored waxing recently.
The ‘lucky’ volunteers were Alistair Francis, one of our care home care staff, James Howarth from the kitchens, and Simon Taylor, a carer from the specialist care centre.
Relative Eunice Holmes generously donated £10 and enjoyed ripping hairs from the brave young men!
The special event took place as part of our Dementia Awareness Week 2015 activities, and money raised is going to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Nominations for the 2015 regional Great British Care Awards now open
The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector . The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. Last year there were 9 regional awards leading to 2 national finals for both the home care and care home sectors.
The awards are all inclusive, bringing together the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors, aswell as unpaid carers; promoting joint working. Working in partnership with care partners and local care associations is at the heart of the initiative; working and linking directly with local managers and networks to further promote the event.
For more information and details on how to nominate your colleagues click HERE to be redirected to the Great British Care Awards nominations page.
Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to their local communities.
Thousands of care homes across the UK take part each year, welcoming the public and arranging events and activities that help to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities.
This is all about showing people what excellent care homes are really about and how they can be at the centre of local communities, developing relationships across the generations.
We're making some positive noise - and we want you to be part of it! Look out for the posters around the homes for more information about the event.
