Rabbit, Rabbit!

It's October 1st, so time to say, "rabbit, rabbit!" Did you know if you say that upon waking on the 1st, you'll have good luck for the whole month? It may be a superstition, but today is definitely lucky: it's our 4 month anniversary! It seems like it's been both 4 minutes and forever, and we feel so fortunate to be here. Maybe there really IS something to saying "rabbit, rabbit!" And especially in October, because we have SO MANY great and fun things planned...

ALIBI BOOKSHOP BOOK CLUB OCTOBER PICK:

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

Since it's October, we needed to go with something spooky, and Shirley Jackson is the mistress of spine shivers. This is the perfect book for Halloween— it’s considered to be “the greatest haunted house story ever written,” and even Neil Gaiman said that it scared him as a teenager and haunts him still. Ooohhhh! From the book copy: “First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a "haunting"; Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers—and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.” The meetings will be Thursday, October 24th at 7pm, and Saturday, October 26th at 4pm. (Yes, again Saturday because we have a really exciting event that Sunday— see below!) We have plenty of copies so pick yours up ASAP!

BOOK PARTY/ AUTHOR EVENT OCTOBER 27th 2:30 pm: I DON'T WANT TO BE AN EMPATH ANYMORE BY ORA NORTH

I can't tell you how excited we are to host Ora North for a reading of her new book, I Don't Want To Be an Empath Anymore ! This book couldn't come out at a better time, and one that is definitely needed. Description: Do you feel all the feels—all the time? Are you fed up with the mainstream spiritual “love and light” scene that calls for constant positivity, even in the face of true loss, trauma, and pain? If so, this book is for you.

I Don’t Want to Be an Empath Anymore is a gift for the jaded empath searching for authenticity in spirituality, and spirituality in being authentic—something beyond the clichéd, positive affirmations that seem to invalidate our anger, sadness, and pain. When we feel broken—and when real damage has been done, it’s not always helpful to ignore our feelings and tell ourselves that we are perfect and whole.

In this refreshingly honest guide, shamanic practitioner Ora North offers practical exercises to help you navigate your intuition and empathic sensitivities, create much-needed boundaries, and build confidence. You’ll also learn to balance your emotions and energy, and harness the strength of your shadow side to embrace your whole self and live your best life.

Like the Japanese craft known as Kintsugi—the art of repairing broken pottery using a lacquer dusted with powdered gold—the process of acknowledging and repairing our fragmented selves can make us even more beautiful than before, cracks and all. In this book, you won’t find platitudes or attempts to whitewash your experiences. What you will find are real, practical tools and guidance to help you make the most of your unique abilities.

This is one NOT to be missed -- mark your calendars now!
