Statement from DevConf regarding COVID-19

Good Evening Friends!

The progression of the COVID-19 (NOVEL CORONAVIRUS) has naturally created concerns for all of us, especially regarding highly-populated public spaces and travelling by air. These concerns have been further exacerbated for many South Africans because of the recent confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa.

DevConf is understandably impacted by this in that there are several companies putting travel bans in place, which is limiting several of our international speakers from being able to attend, and consequently, our agenda will be adapting with amazing local speakers, or live streams to accommodate while still ensuring a top-class conference experience. Agenda changes will be published over the next 2 weeks and will be communicated over social media and email.

As organisers of DevConf, we are excited as ever to proceed with the events in both cities. That said, we recognise that this is a sensitive topic especially for people with small children and/or elderly relatives. DevConf is also following advice from the World Health Organization and CDCon mass events to ensure the event is prepared and safe. The South African Department of Health has world-class systems and facilities and has demonstrated that they are fully prepared for any scenario. South Africa is following international protocol and has developed and distributed clinical guidelines and case definitions to doctors and nurses in both the public and the private sectors.

If you feel ill around the time of the event we encourage you to stay home and make use of the refund policy which is listed on Quicket.co.za

The World Health Organization has published good advice for the public to help us all stay healthy. These are practical tips that all of us should be following regardless of the COVID-19 outbreak. Please take care of yourselves and we hope to see you in a few weeks.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, as always we are in your service, your hosts
Candice & Robert
