Summer Worship at 9:30 am

June 4, 2017: Pentecost

S20170604-PENT 01

The Gospel for this Sunday is

John 20:19-23 Click Here to Read.

This festival derives its name from the Jewish festival of Pentecost, observed fifty days after Passover. On the fiftieth day of Easter we celebrate the Holy Spirit as the power of God among us that heals, forgives, inspires, and unites. In the reading from Acts, images of wind and fire describe the Spirit poured out on disciples of all nations. In John’s gospel the risen Christ breathes the Spirit on his followers on Easter evening. In the one Spirit we are baptized into one body, and at the Lord’s table the Spirit unites us for witness in the world.

Vacation Bible School Needs Your Help!

Please Help!

Vacation Bible School is scheduled to begin in just over two weeks! Thank you for your generous financial support to make this program possible.

There are a number of adult volunteer roles that still need to be filled!

If you've been waiting to check your schedule before signing up to volunteer - now is the time to do it! If you've been on the fence about whether you want to spend a day with young children, remember, not all volunteer jobs involve sitting on the floor or chasing children around. Assistance is needed to prepare and serve lunch, to greet students in the morning, to supervise students for two hours in the afternoon, and to set up for the closing program on Thursday 6/15, among other things.

Thank you for considering the ways you might help out. If you have questions, or to volunteer, please contact Sherri Kehoe at or 608-334-8660.

Pastors' Emergency Fund Special Offerings

IMG 3097

Sunday, June 4

The Pastor’s Emergency Fund allows our pastors to respond to people in need. Most recipients are given a $25 gift card to Woodmans which they can spend on gas or groceries. Money is also used to assist with rent, bills, or security deposits at the pastors’ discretion and via referrals from Porchlight, DAIS and other organizations.

The Worship Mission has designated the first Sunday of each month for donations to the fund. If you use the printed envelopes for your offerings, you will find a Pastor’s Emergency Fund envelope provided for each month. There are also designated “Pastoral Emergency Fund” offering envelopes in each pew. Simply put your name on the envelope and place it in the offering basket. In addition, loose cash from the offering on the first Sunday of the month will go to the Pastors’ Emergency Fund.

You are free to make donations to the Pastor’s Emergency Fund at any time, but we hope that focusing on one Sunday each month for donations will help our pastors more consistently meet the needs of those in our community.

At the recent congregational meeting, two special initiatives were approved to be funded through the gifts committee:
1) part time youth pastor for the next year
2) repair of the front rock wall and improving drainage near the front door to prevent water from reaching our elevator shaft and basement hallway.

The Gifts Committee will match donations to these projects. Please check the bulletin and June Dialogue for details about how you can contribute to these important initiatives.

As always, thank you for your support of these types of special initiatives through the gifts committee. Jim St. Vincent, Chairperson, Gifts Committee
