Getting those kids to sew- it's not as hard as you think!

The summer is over and we are heading to fall and holiday season.

That means that there will be more indoor time and possibly hand made projects for gift giving.

Here are some quick tips for getting kids to sew:

1- let them be in charge. Seriously this is so hard, but we must restrain ourselves from choosing the fabric, pattern or whatever. Let's allow them to discover and connect with the project they are interested in. The whole attitude and experience will be better.

2- make it a fun get together or group project (if you can handle more than 1 student at a time). Sometimes having multiple kids working on their own projects isn't hard and the feeling is a little more lightened and they usually have no idea they are learning something new along the way!

3- don't try to finish in one sitting. Unless the pattern is super simple, don't go all crazy trying to cram in a 5 hour project to a 1 hour sewing moment.

Think of anything else? Drop us your idea in the Quilting 101 fb group. We'd love to hear about how you get the kids to sew.
