nursery

Nursery News!
The nursery is during the 9:00 service! Children are and always will be welcome in worship here at St. Mark, but we also recognize that nursery care can be a helpful option.

For now, we will be relying on volunteers to serve as nursery attendants. You can sign up here: Nursery Volunteer Sign-Up. Adults and youth are welcome to volunteer, but youth under 16 need to serve in pairs. There may be times when the nursery is open but no volunteer is available. In this case, you are still welcome to use the space to play or relax with your child.

We hope you find these options helpful! We are always looking for ways to better support our members and visitors. If you have questions or want more information, please email julie@stmarklc.com.

Summer Intern News

summer fun

White Elephant Wednesday
Wednesday, August 3rd is our summer intern, Becca Honzel’s, last day leading the youth group this summer. In celebration, the theme of our day is “White Elephant Wednesday” where we will have a gift exchange! If you haven't heard of a white elephant gift exchange before the term refers to an extravagant, impractical gift that cannot be easily disposed of. Everyone is asked to bring a fun, creative, and perhaps even impractical present wrapped to Wednesday night. The price limit is $5. You are more than welcome to bring something fun from home- if you don't want to spend money to buy something new you can always recycle or re-gift something from home! Everyone will have a chance to pick a present and we will all take turns opening our gift. Games of gaga ball and sardines are on the agenda in addition to a secret activity! We hope to see you there to celebrate and reflect on our fun times from this summer. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out. Email: melinda@stmarklc.com or rebeccahonzel19@augustana.edu

Outreach Ministry

The Outreach Committee ** would like to thank you for your past support of our Uniform Co-op. This is an important ministry of St. Mark and greatly helps families with the start of school expenses. Now that the Fourth of July has passed, I’m sure you have noticed the stores have started selling school supplies. For the Outreach Committee, this means it is time to get ready to sell uniforms for our Uniform Co-op. Since 2015, we have sold school uniforms at discounted prices. During the 2021-22 school year, we served Ellis, Lewis Lemon, and McIntosh elementary schools. We sold over 2600 uniform pieces and served 774 children and 560 families. We are excited to add Haskel Elementary School to our Uniform Co-op program this year.

With financial help from St. Mark, United Way of Rock River Valley, First Free Rockford, Try-Beta Club, Kiwanis Club of Rockford, and others, we can sell new uniform pants for $4, new uniform shirts for $3, and anything used for $1. We also allow trade-ins and give $1 credit for each usable piece.

Here is how can you help with our Uniform Co-op?
• Donations of new uniforms: (All donated items can be placed in the little red truck in Fellowship hall.)
• Navy or khaki uniform pants in girls’ and boys’ size 6-14.
• Navy, light blue, yellow, dark green, or red polo shirts (must have a collar, no logos) girls and boys in sizes 6-14.
• Donations of used uniform pieces in sizes 6-14 in the above colors only.
• Volunteer for a 3-hour shift at Fall Registration on August 17 and 18. (Call Maureen at 815-289-4548 or email MTHargrove@gmail.com. For more details.)
• Financial Contributions are welcomed too. Your financial contributions help us purchase in bulk at a discounted price. (You can write a check and write “school uniforms” in the memos or you can donate through Pushpay here at this link.)

This program serves shoppers with the dignity they deserve and empowers parents to provide for their families. Because of our partnership with Ellis, Lewis Lemon, and McIntosh, attendance at Registration and Parent-Teacher Conferences has increased. Parents count on us throughout the year for their children's needs as they grow. Thank you for your continued support of our Uniform Co-op program.

Stella Schroeder and Maureen Hargrove, Co-chairs.
