New Project: Tiny Home Community

Hello !

I've been pretty quiet lately while staying busy with many projects. I wanted to share a project close to my heart: a housing development for the City of Agoura Hills.

We've been working on this project for almost two years, and it has been a privilege and pleasure to work with the folks at the City of Agoura Hills. They have been supportive of the idea for a Tiny Home Community from the very start in an effort to meet the State's affordable housing requirements.

If you have been following for awhile, you know that creating a Tiny Home Community is one of my biggest dream. I've always envisioned it as a solution to alleviate the housing crisis, and also a great way to bring people together, share resources and minimize our impact on the environment.

The City of Agoura Hills has a strong environmental initiative, so we're thrilled to be able to incorporate sustainable features such as solar panels, bioswales, rain gardens, and EV charging stations. Check out the concept plans below!

By collaborating with a great team of professionals and City staff, we proposed a design with only 11 dwelling units on the 2 acre site. The design of the units will be based on the Tiny House Prefab (see below). The project will be designated 100% affordable housing with outdoor gathering spaces, community gardens and educational hiking trails around the mature oak trees.

We're excited about future possibilities and we hope this can serve as a template for other cities to follow. Onwards!

The video is finally here! My client has been living in her Tiny House Prefab for two years, and I'm delighted to share this video with you.

If you've been following along, you'll know that the Tiny House Prefab has been a long-term process from conception to fruition. Here's a yearly timeline:

2018 - Design idea conceived for Tiny House Prefab
2020 - Commissioned by client to build Tiny House Prefab as ADU
2021 - Construction starts by modular builder Bevyhouse
2022 - Finished and installed! Client move-in

Built on a permanent foundation, the Tiny House Prefab combines the efficiency of construction and permit processing with factory building. More details HERE.

I'm so delighted that my client Rosalinda has been happily living in her little abode for two years. The property is like a small family compound. Rosalinda lives in the ADU behind the main house, where her sister and her sister's husband lives. Her mother also lives in the big house with a separate entrance and kitchenette, so she can live independently with the support of the family.

I've always envisioned the Tiny House Prefab as an ADU - as a rental unit or extra space for family. As our parents get older, ADUs are a good alternative to elderly housing, which are often cost-prohibitive.
