October 2018 eNews Header red

Hi Member,

Well, the 'What's on in 2018? Veterinary CPD Calendar' has been updated and published. You'll find the links to both the pdf and online version below.

I've also already added in quite a few CPD events for 2019 in both versions although it's starting to get a bit tricky to fit all events in the pdf version of the Calendar. I know it makes logical sense to drop the pdf version in 2019 and simply concentrate on the online calendar, but I think the pdf calendar allows for easier sharing and you can physically highlight training events of interest. Or perhaps I'm just being old-fashioned with my preference for printing up and working with hard copies? Happy to hear your opinions and views - just email me judyg@vetanswers.com.au

Also this week we feature the first episode in the 'Love Your Pet Love Your Vet' mini-series (last week was the introductory video). It's only about 3 minutes in length and definitely worth watching and sharing with your clients.

You'll also find a great example of a relatively simple Facebook Post that has so far received heaps of interest - and it's pretty basic (although obviously interesting!).

Also following on from last week's suggestion to make sure you've set up your Google My Business Profile, is another suggestion to Google your competitors to keep an eye on what everyone is up to (even if you are the best vet practice in the neighbourhood!)

Our aim is to help you - save time, connect & discover!

Enjoy your reading :)

A great example of a Facebook Post for sharing...

The magical hand

Image source: Aggressive Dog Facebook Page

I came across this post during the week from the Aggressive Dog Facebook Page - a Page with 1876 Likes, so not exactly a huge following:

'The magical hand'

Sometimes well meaning people reach out with their hand to "make friends" with a dog. The idea is that if the dog can sniff their hand, the dog will eventually like that person.

This is also a great way to get bitten by some dogs. A reaching hand can be perceived as a threat and some dogs have learned that biting makes that hand go away very quickly!

A better option is to allow the dog to come to you if they are interested in sniffing, and simply ignore them until they give you indications that they are seeking an affiliative interaction.

Of course, if you are not sure about the dog's body language, OR there is a history of biting, OR you don't need to handle the dog at all, it is best to keep on walking by!

Remembering that although the Page has only 1876 'Likes'.. this post received 569 reactions; 48 comments and 826 shares (and growing!). The Page has many similar types of posts, all of which seems to get pretty good comments, reactions & shares.

So what similar types of information could you share ?

Do you Google your competitors?

google

What are your competitiors up to?

Even if you are the best veterinary practice in your area it doesn't hurt to regularly keep up with the competitors.

Just Google 'veterinarians near me' and see what everyone else is up to.

Check out this dvm360 post to find out more:

~ Do you know your competition? Google 'veterinarians near me' (dvm360)

While you're there, check out their 'Google My Business Listing' (that's the box that appears on the right hand side). Also check out the 'Google My Business Listing' for YOUR business. If you're not making the most of this free listing then read this:

~ The Beginner's Guide to Google My Business (Heart Harmony Communications)

One more thing... a good point from the dvm360 post: "...you shouldn't jump for joy if your practice is the No. 1 search result. Google, for example, is handing you that geolocated information because you're literally standing in the building."
