This program, called P1 Plus, will teach new sales hires everything they need to know to be successful salespeople.

There are only four P1 Plus Sessions per year. The CBA’s Broadcast Education & Development Scholarship Committee will review all submissions and select two applicants for the upcoming session (a value of $500 per trainee).

NAB

"NAB Releases New AM Radio Toolkit"

The NAB is releasing new radio spots in English and Spanish, to continue engaging listeners in the campaign to keep AM radio in cars. These spots, along with digital ads and talking points are part of the very successful Depend on AM campaign.

Participation by listeners is vital to keeping legislation front and center with our congressional members. Over 266,000 emails and 25,000 tweets have been sent to Congress thus far.

Keep the momentum going!

The new spots ask listeners to contact their members of Congress by texting AM to 52886 and urging them to support the Senate and House legislation that ensures AM radio remains in cars.

Access Depend on AM campaign tools here and find scripts, live reads, social tiles, sample texts and a letter to listeners that you can use to tout the benefits of AM radio as you do interviews on this issue.

Stations airing these new messages should also fill out a PB-19, since there is specific mention of the bills. Please reach out to the CBA for a pre-populated form to make the process easier.

We’ve all heard it. “People are tired of webinars!” “Everyone is suffering from webinar fatigue!” LBS is here to inform you that this isn’t true! Anecdotal evidence that we see across all industries is that what people are tired of and suffering fatigue from are mediocre webinars.

CBA members love LBS webinars and they prove it every single time we host one. Attendees know that they will reliably experience high quality direction that they can put into practice right away. Members also appreciate the regular and direct access they get to broadcast experts who provide a live answer to every question that comes in.

Judge applies Colorado’s anti-SLAPP law to defamation claims against Denver7

By Jeffrey A. Roberts, CFOIC Executive Director

A judge last week applied Colorado’s four-year-old anti-SLAPP law in tossing out defamation allegations made by a health care staffing company against reporters for Denver7 and Denver Newsbreak.

The 2019 statute established an expedited process for dismissing civil actions, known as Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation, targeting free expression about matters of public interest. When a libel claim fits that criterion, a court can be asked to rule on whether the plaintiff has established “a reasonable likelihood” of prevailing on the claim, potentially halting the case (although an appeal is allowed) before the expenses of the discovery process are incurred. {read more >>}

EAS Nationwide Test Scheduled for Wednesday, October 4, 2023

by Daniel Brown of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (“FEMA”) and the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) have announced that a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (“EAS”) will take place on October 4, 2023, at 2:20 pm EDT.

As we previously reported, EAS participants, with limited exceptions, should have already filed their ETRS Form 1 providing the FCC with information about their stations’ EAS equipment. Any EAS participant that must update their ETRS Form 1 to ensure its accuracy (including changes resulting from transfers of control, updates to EAS equipment or software, or as required by any revision of its State EAS Plan) must do so on or before September 15, 2023. {read more >>}
