Leaf Fest has Wrapped for the Season!
Green Shores NYC, Friends of Queensbridge Park and the Astoria Park Alliance in collaboration with Partnerships for Parks and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation collected over 1,000 bags of leaves (that's about 20,000 gallons of leaves) at Queensbridge and Astoria Parks this November and December!
The collected leaves will be composted by the Parks Department and used in the parks, green streets and street trees throughout our community starting next spring.
HUGE THANKS to dedicated volunteers that joined us from throughout the borough of Queens and the City, including Forest Hills High School, Newtown High School, Newcomers High School, Kaufman Regal Cinemas and TransCanada! |

Parks Without Borders Queens Community Meeting

120-55 Queens Blvd
Kew Gardens, Queens
NYC Parks has launched a new design approach and capital funding initiative to improve the areas where parks meet their neighborhoods —Parks Without Borders. This new initiative focuses on improving park entrances, edges, and spaces adjacent to parks. By extending parks into communities, opening sight lines, adjusting gates, and adding furnishings outside parks’ traditional borders, Parks Without Borders (PWB) will improve New Yorkers’ access to quality parks.
Parks Commissioner Silver will present Parks Without Borders during community meetings and asks that community members and organizations join him to share input and nominate their park.

Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibition
Daily through March 13, 2016
Socrates Sculpture Park
Vernon Blvd & Broadway
Ravenswood, Queens
Fifteen years ago Socrates Sculpture Park inaugurated the Emerging Artist Fellowship (EAF) Exhibition and launched what would become an annual exhibition of “artists to watch.”
This year’s Emerging Artist Fellows were selected through a highly competitive process that attracted over 350 applications, a record number for the program.
The 2015 Emerging Artist Fellows are: Kenseth Armstead, Charlotte Becket & Roger Sayre, José Carlos Casado, Torkwase Dyson, Carla Edwards, Davey Hawkins, Lena Henke, David Horvitz, Charlotte Hyzy, Melanie McLain, Kirsten Nelson, Freya Powell, Leah Raintree, Aaron Suggs, and Noa Younse.
As the culmination of a sought-after fellowship program, the EAF Exhibition is distinct in its commitment to emphasize individual artist projects. Rather than present an overarching theme, the exhibition highlights the singularity of each artist’s vision and subject matter, while providing critical consideration on diverse subjects, processes, and the specificities of site.
