RIPTA IN THE COMMUNITY

SEVENTH ANNUAL STUFF A BUS A HUGE SUCCESS!

The final numbers are in, and we are happy to announce that this year, we raised a total of 8,292 pounds of food for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank! THANK YOU for making the 7TH Annual Stuff A Bus Food Drive a huge success!

The Food Bank's statewide network of member agencies serves 60,000 Rhode Islanders each month. One in three served is a child under the age of 18. RIPTA would also like to thank our community partners – Ocean State Job Lot and iHeartRadio for making this a huge success.

“We are always thrilled to bring together partners like RIPTA and iHeart for this great cause,” said David Sarlitto, Executive Director, Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation. “We are especially thankful this year for the team at We Share Hope, who generously offered to store the food donations for Operation Stand Down, allowing the veterans that we are passionate about serving access to the food as they need it throughout the year. As always we are grateful for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, who's consistently there for Rhode Islanders in need.”

Toys can be dropped off now through December 14, 2018 at the West End Community Center, 109 Bucklin Street in Providence, Monday through Friday, 6:30am – 5:30pm. Donations can also be dropped off at RIPTA’s Headquarters, 705 Elmwood Avenue in Providence, Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. The West End Community Center is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for your generosity in brightening the life of a child!

The West End Community Center (WECC) serves the Providence, Rhode Island communities of the West End, Elmwood, and Upper and Lower Southside. Overall, these neighborhoods are the most ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse neighborhoods in the city.

WHAT WILL PUBLIC TRANSIT LOOK LIKE IN THE FUTURE?

RIPTA is starting work on the State’s first Transit Master Plan. The plan, which is a collaborative effort with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and the Division of Statewide Planning, will look at how public transportation can best serve Rhode Island in the future.

Three open houses are scheduled for next month to introduce the project to the public and start gathering feedback. For dates and times, please visit: https://bit.ly/2DM1v0o. There will be more public forums going forward. Also, the public is welcome to send thoughts at comments about future transit plans right on the project’s new website, www.transitforwardri.com.
