In this edition of ACEI’s The Report, we have gathered news on some of the education-related events that occurred this month which we hope will be of interest to you. One common thread we have noticed is an increase in bilateral agreements between China and African nations as well as Russia and several countries in Asia focusing on efforts to strengthen infrastructure and education. What is missing from the news reports is whether anything substantially equivalent is happening between the U.S. and other countries. Unlike the U.S., which does not have a centralized unifying body such as a Ministry of Education (MOE), the bilateral agreements we are witnessing internationally are being reached between governmental entities, vis a vis their MOEs. The question to ask is where does U.S. see itself in the global education market as Russia, China, and even India forge ahead and invest billions of dollars in bilateral agreements to further education exchange?
