Encouragement

Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing and Darla Smith for writing these weekly bits of encouragement.

"This is the day the Lord has made – I will rejoice! It is sunny and bright today – makes everything much better. In a couple weeks we will celebrate Resurrection Sunday. It is such a special time of the year – all things made new. Is there anything we can do to make things new? Well I am glad you asked because that leads me right into this week’s WORD, “EXERCISE.”

"Now keep reading, I am not a fan of “exercise” either. It takes everything I have to “exercise,” so I get it. I am working at getting better at it, so I hope this encouragement helps me! Merriam-Webster's definition of “exercise” is to use repeatedly to strengthen or develop. Well, well, well – isn’t that interesting? God reminded me it is just not the physical “exercise” we need but the spiritual “exercise” as well. We need to “exercise” in our prayer, reading the Word, spending time with the Holy Spirit, fasting, worshiping, basking in His presence. That will strengthen and develop our relationship with Him. I am sure the majority of you who get my encouragement every week already know this but sometimes (I) we need to be reminded. Our desire should be to grow stronger in Him, so that spending time with Him is our number one priority above all. We need to “exercise” time with Him. He is so worthy of our time. He loves us so much and wants only the best for all of us. We think we must buy the right things in order to help us “exercise,” but God has equipped us with everything we need to “exercise” with Him...our whole heart! Join me this week in “exercise.”

You’ve been raised on the Message of the faith and have followed sound teaching. Now pass on this counsel to the followers of Jesus there, and you’ll be a good servant of Jesus. Stay clear of silly stories that get dressed up as religion. Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart. ~ 1 Timothy 4:6-9 (MSG)

This week, we celebrated Shawn's birthday. His mom brought his favorite meal, we sang Happy Birthday, and enjoyed time together. Happy Birthday, Shawn!

A highlight of our week was baking amazing Ube Crinkle Cookies. (What is an Ube Crinkle? Also known as purple yam crinkles, they are Filipino cookies made from purple yam extract, flour, eggs, baking powder, butter, and sugar. They are characteristically deep purple in color and are typically rolled in powdered sugar or glazed. They have a crunchy exterior and a soft chewy center.) Despite ending up with some colorful fingers, everyone enjoyed these beautiful and unusual treats!

When not eating and celebrating, our crew got plenty of work done. They cut up some fallen trees, picked up branches, did some fix-it jobs outside, cleaned inside and more. We also enjoyed a visit with our friends Don & Peggy Fisher. There's nothing like a visit from good friends!

We're all looking forward to tomorrow, as Crestview will be returning to work with us for the spring season. We love having our classroom friends here! Hopefully some of our other classrooms will be able to return as well.

Our big news this week, that you can read more about by using the button below, is that our CSA program is now full for 2023! Even though our Early Bird Deadline isn't until tomorrow, all our shares are sold. Thanks to all our subscribers! We are looking forward to a great season.

GG Community Service Project Donation Opportunity Extended

Goodness Grows has taken on a service project to help a local family that is dealing with food insecurity and health issues. We feel that doing service projects is an important experience that benefits our clients and staff, challenging us to give back and look for ways we can grow some goodness out in our community.

If you would like to contribute to help us with this project, please send in a monetary donation of any amount or a gift card for any grocery store. Goodness Grows will match all donations, dollar for dollar, so we can make as big of a difference as possible. Feel free to include an encouraging note for us to pass on to the family, if you feel the desire to do so.

We will still have a donation bucket available at church this Sunday, because we haven't been able to head out shopping this week. (Thank you to the person/family who was able to donate last Sunday!) If all goes according to plan. we will shop next week. Fingers crossed!

Thank you,
GG Staff & Board

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.

Nature: Real and Imagined at Mill Creek Park

April 2-July 2, 10am-5pm (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Fellows Riverside Gardens: Weller Gallery
"Nature: Real and Imagined" is a printmaking exhibition by Malorie Martin that explores the true-to-life forms of flora and fauna, in contrast to their artistic, or imagined, renderings. Using cyanotype, a photo-chemical printmaking process, the artist first captures the silhouette of different flora onto paper and fabric. Then, on top of these cyanotype backgrounds, she block prints hand carved images of the same plants or corresponding insects. These works seek to highlight the differences between what we see and what we create when working from nature, in a bright and whimsical way."
