hackberry aka sugarberry bringing ancient sweetness (plus protein, carbs, healthy fat, and other goodiments like freaking opal!) to these hard times

Dear ones, this morning I awoke to the sound of hackberries dropping on my roof as birds feasted above. Thankfully the recent winds have scattered this abundant tree treat (and oldest known human plant food!) across my porch where I"ve collected them by the handfuls to create a delicious nourishing drink. This wild harvest along with a bountiful hickory, acorn, and walnut season; persimmon trees still loaded; chickweed's return; and creasy greens who never left; assures me once again that there is enough for us all. The myths and systems of scarcity, separation, and supremacy can be dismantled as we build relationships and networks of solidarity and care. May we be in this deep healing work together. Thanks for reading on for class and fam updates as well as resources for our individual and collective health and freedom! Sugarberry blessings and LOVE, Planty Kim

My Wild Greens Guide!

in process

This summer, friends and family encouraged me to apply for my first ever grant to fund a long held dream of creating a local Wild Greens Guide. While I wasn't one of the recipients (888 applicants!) you can watch the 3-minute video my sister Zap helped make. Believe it or not, writing (and making time to write) is a challenge for me so your encouragement for this project towards community food sovereignty means a lot!

Family Love Update

Tremendous thanks for helping me raise $1,363 to donate to the Chatham Community Fund for my birthday! June was the 1 year anniversary of my serious injury from a car accident and I'm so grateful to be well on my healing journey. During COVD I'm visiting Grandma Margie at her window and we smile and talk loudly through the glass. I'm in a pod with my sister and spend Thursdays with just-turned-8 Archer exploring outdoor wonders while his older brother Parker is a freshman in college!
