Creativity is just play

Hi there,

I just finished reading The Starless Sea, by Erin Morgenstern. It was a little crazy, and a little confusing, but rich and full with lush romantic imagery. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some stories began and ended. Others cropped up out of nowhere. Characters and themes moved between the stories, all tied together with bees and crowns and keys and owls. As I said, a little confusing, so I creeped on the author and came across a review of the book by someone from Harvard. Certainly, they know their stuff at Harvard, right? What did he think? Well...he hated it. No plot line, no character development, no dramatic tension, and so on. He cited an offending piece of prose, appalled that editors had not slashed this poorly constructed sentence. Okay then.

Going on and coming up

We've been having SOOO much fun with our beginning classes, both knit and crochet--I can't tell you how much I love helping new knitters get started. It's a fun experience to share with friends as well as a great opportunity for mindfulness, and it's also one of the most accessible forms of creative expression. You don't have to know how to draw or paint to enjoy all of the beautiful colors and textures. You can just play. If you're thinking about it, come on -- join the party. This is a totally adorable hat, shamelessly copied from the Colorado Chick design I posted on Instagram a while back. I was going to reverse engineer it myself, and then I found that lovely Emily Ingrid had already done it! This is her pattern, which she kindly put out there for free.

This super cute design featured alternating sections of ribbing and reverse stockinette with a provisional cast on and turned hem. It's not hard, but there's plenty to learn, so it's a great next step project if you've already made a more info and to register
