Back to the Future Graphic

AAMPO is currently updating our region's transportation plan, and we want to hear from you!

Our Metropolitan Transportation Plan, called Mobility 2050, identifies transportation needs out to the year 2050. Mobility 2050 reflects the region’s transportation vision and goals and guide the long-range transportation planning efforts of our partner agencies. It outlines our region's ongoing planning and project development efforts and lists projects the region could fund for construction over the next 25 years.

Now through December 1, 2021, we are focusing on "The Future of Transportation" with a survey on how our region feels about emerging transportation technologies like electric bikes, self driving cars, drone delivery, and air taxis. The survey should take about 5 minutes to complete, and your input will help shape the future of transportation.

DAylight SAving time ends 1

The end of Daylight Saving Time is right around the corner, which means it’s time to take care of a few safety essentials around the house. As you’re turning back the clocks and checking your smoke detectors, take the opportunity to also check for any recalls to your vehicle.

In 2020, there were over 886 recalls affecting 55 million vehicles in the United States. Every vehicle recall is serious. Yet only about 75% of vehicles recalled in a given year are ever fixed. That puts you, your passengers, and others on the road at risk. Don't risk your safety, that of your loved ones, or others on the road by failing to address any open vehicle recall. Take these steps to protect yourself and your family.

How to Check for Vehicle Safety Recalls

▪ Visit NHTSA.gov/Recalls and enter your vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN). In seconds, you'll know if your vehicle is subject to a safety recall.
▪ Get It Fixed. If your vehicle is affected by a safety recall, contact your dealer to schedule a repair. Every recall is fixed FOR FREE.
▪ Download the SaferCar App. With NHTSA's free SaferCar app, you can get recall information sent to your phone. Simply download our updated app, for Android and iOS, add your vehicle and equipment, and we'll send you an alert if a safety recall is issued. If you've already downloaded the app, the end of Daylight Saving Time is a good time to open the app and make sure your vehicle and equipment information is up-to-date.
▪ Sign up for Recall Alerts. If your vehicle is included in a future safety recall, you’ll receive an e-mail letting you know.

This November 7, Texas marks 20 years of daily deaths on our roadways with more than 70,000 innocent lives lost to preventable fatal crashes. Texas Transportation Commissioner Laura Ryan, a champion for road safety and TxDOT’s #EndTheStreakTX campaign, believes ending this streak is attainable, but will require every Texan’s commitment.

“Last year, 20 Texas counties actually had zero deaths on their roadways – that tells me we can end the streak of daily deaths in Texas,” Ryan said. “This is why in 2019 the Texas Transportation Commission adopted a new goal of having zero deaths on our roadways by 2050, and to cut the number of fatalities in half by 2035. We will do our part; and we need drivers to do theirs.”

“The effort to end the streak of daily deaths in Texas is a shared responsibility and we are committed to including safety enhancements in every project we build or maintain,” said TxDOT Executive Director James Bass. “It’s going to take education, engineering and enforcement to get this done, and that’s why this call to action to every Texan is so imperative.”

What we’re asking is simple: when you get behind the wheel buckle up; pay attention and avoid all distractions like phones; never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs; watch your speed, and always drive to the conditions around you. You can help #EndtheStreak.
