Online Worship Dates Revised

For the health and safety of our community of faith, the church council has made the decision to offer online worship temporarily instead of gathering physically on Sunday mornings in the church building. At this time, worship will be offered online through May 24. The council will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate as is prudent.

The Gospel for this Sunday:

John 14:15-21

Spirit of Truth

Jesus does not abandon his followers. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus comes to abide with his disciples of every generation. As Pentecost draws near, we are reminded that the risen Christ dwells in us as the Spirit of truth. We receive this Spirit in baptism and pray that in our gathering around the Lord’s table the Spirit will transform us to be the body of the risen Christ in the world.

Moving Forward: Deciding Our Future Ministry

hands-1273148 1920

Even though we're unable to gather together in worship, fellowship, council, or missions, we continue on our journey together. That includes the ministry evaluation task force and their report to council and the congregation. We are also planning to try some new ways to connect with you and continue moving forward. The council has been meeting virtually via zoom, where we can see each other and talk with each other. Those without a computer or i-pad to connect via video, can also call into the meeting. Here are upcoming meetings:

Monday, May 18

The Ministry Evaluation Task Force will give a final report and recommendation to council.

Sunday, May 31 from 11 to Noon

The congregation is encouraged to attend via Zoom this Informal Ministry Evaluation Task Force report to the congregation (both to hear from the task force, as well as to help people connect via zoom)

Sunday, June 7 - Congregational Meeting

The congregation will consider the recommendations from the task force on future ministry and related staffing, as well as the recommendation from council for members of the call committee. While we hold out hope that at least some of us can gather in person for this meeting in June, we'll plan it for at least some, if not all of us, to attend virtually via zoom.

We look forward to connecting with you in the coming weeks as we consider our future direction in ministry together. We hope you are staying healthy, and praying for each other and our ministry together.

Yours in Christ, on behalf of the Church Council,
Jim St. Vincent

Spring Clean Up Challenges

gardentools

We can't gather as a group to clean up the LELC grounds, but we can come individually. Drop by the church and do a little bit of yard clean up when you can. Please follow Social Distancing protocol. If someone else is at LELC working in the yard, please plan to come back another time.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own yard tools since there won't be anyone at the church to give access to the church's yard tools. There will be a tarp on top of the blue sand barrel by the Hegg Ave. entrance, so the yard waste can be dragged over to the curb on Hegg Ave. for the city to pick up. Thanks. Jeff

Chalk: An Outside Experience

“Chalk” a pretty picture on our church’s sidewalk on Monona Drive. Express something good and kind and beautiful. Give the “walkers” something to smile about. (You’ll find chalk in a bin behind the three tall bushes by the library window.) Invite some other parishioner to meet you there. Safe distance. Chat while drawing.

Drive-Up to Lake Edge with Personal Care Kit Donations!

personal-care-kit

Saturday, May 16, 2020; 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (Rain or Shine)

The Peace and Justice Mission is collecting items for Lake Edge to send to Lutheran World Relief. Our goal is 150 kits to be collected by the end of May. To help reach our goal we are planning a drive-up service for you to drop off donations. The following items are needed to complete the kits:

14 Bath Towels (light to medium weight, 20” x 40” to 52” x 27”) (dark colors)
10 Nail Clippers
6 Toothbrushes (adult size)
3 Combs (sturdy)
13 Bars of Soap (Bath-Size, 4 oz to 5 oz)

Peace and Justice Mission members will be in the parking lot to receive donations. Please keep in mind it is important for everyone to maintain social distancing. There will be 5 well-marked boxes near the church entrance doors, one for each item needed. You can choose to get out of your vehicle and place in the appropriate box, (one vehicle at a time) or we will collect your donation through your window using a pole to keep us six feet from one another.

If there is a surplus of a an item at the end of the round-up, it will be used for next year’s kits. Please help us complete our goal and swing on over to the Lake Edge Parking lot on May 16! It will be so good to see you -- even from a distance!
Thanks! -- Peace and Justice Mission
