July 20-22 2022

Joint AACRAO-AICE Institute and Symposium on Professional Programs and Degrees

Join AACRAO and AICE for a special event July 20-22, in Kansas City, focusing on international professional programs and degrees.

On July 20-21, AACRAO will provide an in-depth training on the evaluation of international professional programs such as Law and Medicine, and how they differ from academic degrees. This training utilizes primary research, authentic international credentials, and best industry practices in evaluating these programs for recognition, undergraduate, transfer and graduate admissions.

On July 22, AICE will host the Symposium, focusing on the differences of professional programs and degree types in the fields of law and medicine with the goal of establishing evaluation standards. Panelists and attendees will discuss best practices and challenges in evaluation and how institutions in North America handle these programs.

This unique, joint event combines training in evaluating professional programs from around the world with a larger conversation among industry experts and an opportunity to create consistent methodologies and update AICE Standards.

AFGHANISTAN

Taliban Say "Good News" Coming On Girls' Education In Afghanistan

At the end of March, the Taliban, who took power after US forces withdrew from the country last August, closed high schools and colleges for girls just hours after their reopening.

ARMENIA

Acceptance of applications for voluntary teacher certification starts

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia announces the acceptance of applications for voluntary attestation of teachers of general education institutions from May 16 to June 7, 2022. In 2022, the certification will be implemented in grades 5-12 for teachers who teach all subjects. To read more, click here.

GHANA

Ghana’s high school system sets many students up for failure: it needs a rethink

In Ghana, secondary schools are grouped into categories based on their performance in the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination. This is a school-leaving exam that grade 12 students take before progressing to tertiary institutions. Some schools are better resourced based on their history and the largesse of past students. They use networks to build infrastructure and provide key learning resources that the government does not provide. The Ghana Education Service 2020 report revealed that in 76% of senior high schools captured in the report, fewer than half the students passed the school leaving exam. To read more, click here.
