Celebrating Queens Super Powers this weekend!

Our Super Power Bracelet workshop was launched on Randells Island, NY in 2012. The Love Yourself Project introduced this very inspiring campaign to further our efforts in promoting self love. The LYP joins Yvonne Shortt at QAI Queens Art Intervention for the second year to foster connections between local individuals through art.

LYP Ambassadors invite the public to participate in its Super Power Bracelet making by asking participants of all ages to come up with one word or a sentence that overrides any negative thing said about themselves. It’s a word that gives them the power to be strong and confident. LYP staff members will creatively help them come up with their word and then guide them in creating a bracelet using the super power word crafted into a bead and made into their bracelet. Self worth and self love is a practice we all need to work on as a daily routine. Our super power bracelets are a reminder to do just that!

Each participant will then make an origami heart that has a message of self love inside it. The hearts will be collected and added to our 10,000 Heart Campaign 2020.

Saturday only, September 19th from 11 am to 1 pm. Look for us at Hunter's Point South Park next to the LIC Landing, Long Island City (LIC), Long Island City, New York 11101

Statistics show that youth suicide rates are on the rise. Mental health issues are one of the leading causes of suicide. In response to the rising statistics, our goal is to encourage self love, inspire those that have been affected by mental health issues or lost someone due to suicide and empower all with positive alternatives and resources. By reaching out to our local precincts, elected officials, businesses, community organizations, churches and schools we hope to be a life line for our youth. It’s imperative that our communities commit their time and resources to our youth.

HOW DOES MY MONEY HELP?
Arts education and psychological studies on how the arts stimulate the brain demonstrate that arts involvement increases the human capacity to self-visualize, challenge perceptions and think self-sufficiently, independently and comprehensively. The self-visualization process and independent creative thinking processes are essential to the development of a strong individual identity and community identity. The Love Yourself Project increases access to these types of opportunities. Your money helps us reach the most people possible, and helps to build strong individuals and communities through the arts.
