Fall Schedule & Registration

Dahlia Ketsup & Mustard

Greetings Friends,

As the light begins to fade fall is definitely in the air. Summer is not leaving without a fight however with our temps still reaching high up the thermostat. My Dahlia patch doesn't mind the lingering heat though. After a slow soggy start to our season, they have finally arrived at "Kim's Garden Party." Welcome!

We are heading into a longer break than usual. No classes August 27-October 1. I'm giving myself and the teachers some spaciousness after what continues to be a long stretch of pandemic oriented teaching. They've been rock stars and I'm grateful for the heart & mind filled efforts of Doug, Laura, Scooter, Nicholas & our new rising star, Shiuwen. There is only one reason to do this work and that is for the love of it and dedication to passing on something of value. 10,000 Thank you's!

Thank all of you too, students & friends for your presence and showing up. I look forward to seeing you soon and meeting new friends in October!

Fall Blog: Time

time

In a couple weeks I turn 65. If you’ve been around me lately, you know I’m a bit obsessed about it. I love birthdays; I think they should be national holidays. I love notes and calls and social media posts. I am not shy about stating when mine is nor how old I’ll be. I’m finally at the point in my life where I think aging is fun, a bit like a race I can still compete in! Sure, it’s a race to death, but it is so interesting! I’m lucky though, I have good health and valuable work, good friends, a comfortable life. So, when I wake up every day and hear “runners to your mark, GO!” I head off along the track curious about what the day will bring. I recognize the privilege.

65 feels like a goal met. Read more

News & Reads

Screen Shot 2022-08-25 at 11.20.20 AM

The Gaffney/Sim team has done it again. Their newest book is quite interesting and helpful. As I said in my review, it is the book I wish I had as a beginner. Even if you have been practicing for many years, I believe you will find it useful. Check out Chen Taijiquan, Illustrated

Jan Silberstorff also published a very interesting and fascinating read about Chen Fake, a core figure in the evolution of Chen Taijiquan. Chen Fake: The Lost and Rediscovered Biography of the Great Taiji-Master

And finally, The NYTimes cites, once again, the efficacy of Taijiquan for balance in, "Can You Pass the 10 Second Balance Test?" As all of you who know me know, I love this but all these references fail to state exactly why Taijiquan is good for balance. You might consider taking a class and finding out for yourself. :)

One last Thank You for your presence on the floor and in my life. Have a great September and see you on the other side of 65!
