Stem Cell Research Leads to Insights Into How Huntington’s Disease Develops

A novel study published in JHD using pluripotent stem cells advances understanding of how the disease develops and may help pave the way for identifying pathways for future treatments. Investigators used induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) using five cell lines generated from juvenile HD and five controls to model the development of the region of the brain most affected by HD.

Q-Suite Motor Assessment Tool Promising for Evaluating Huntington’s Disease Therapies in Children

In clinical trials of adults with Huntington's disease the Q-Suite Motor Assessment Tool has proven to be helpful to detect and quantitate subtle motor abnormalities. With the anticipated arrival of preventive gene therapies that will most likely be administered to young children known to be carriers of the HD mutation, it is crucial to have a means to evaluate motor abilities in children that is sensitive to the child's stage of development. Promising results of a feasibility study published in JND indicate that Q-Motor can address this need.
