What Am I Able to Give?
Watching images of the flooding in Houston and other hurricane damage in Texas over the past few days has me thinking so much about my pilgrimage to New Orleans in 2005 after Katrina.
It was images like these that moved me to hitchhike my way across the country to volunteer for six months in the middle of a disaster zone.
As you might imagine, that experience was one of the most heart-opening, life-changing things I've ever done, and it will forever inform the way I witness and understand natural disasters.
While I'm not able to hightail it down to Houston at this moment, I have been asking myself, "What am I able to give right now?"
This question led me to the idea of donating 100 percent of all my online course revenue until the end of August, so it's happening!
If you purchase any of my online courses today or tomorrow (they range from $24 - $290), every dollar will be donated to the following organizations: The Texas Diaper Bank, The Houston Coalition for the Homeless, and Austin Pets Alive.
I announced this yesterday on social media, and we've already raised over $1000!
I also hope you'll ask yourself, "What am I able to give?" If you're an artist, maybe you can auction off a piece of art, or give a percentage of your sales? Get creative. There are always ways to come together in the name of service and community.
Here are some great organizations doing work on the ground right now. Just make sure to check the websites for current needs and updates.
Sending love and strength to all my students, friends, and family, and everyone else affected by this disaster. <3 <3 <3
