About Astrometrics

Released on 33 Jazz Records 'Astrometrics' is ace UK guitarist Matt Chandler's 3rd album, CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.
“I wanted to do an album that was in keeping with the organ trio tradition but with a newer take on it and with material that was not composition heavy, where the music and the players just "get down to it". The material, by design, is simplistic. It's really a celebration of our skills and how are skills work together. The album title is in keeping with this theme as it is an anagram of our names.”

Matt Chandler has worked with a diverse range of artists including Youth (Killing Joke, The Orb), Arno Carstens, Fake?, Poly Styrene and more recently accompanied Ozark Henry on his European tour.

His innovative style is supported by a career that has spanned genres from jazz to punk, folk to electronica.

The London-based artist's current projects include jazz group 'The Matt Chandler Trio' with Ross Stanley on Hammond Organ and Eric Ford on drums, and electro-funk band 'Pest' who regularly play live shows around London and have releases on Ninja Tune records.

Promoter Review

Organ trios are usually well-received at Norwich Jazz Club and Matt Chandler’s trio was no exception. Chandler's Scofield-tinged tunes were what particularly sold the band to the club's promoter but the trio's album 'Astrometrics' comprises a selection of well-crafted original tunes representative of a range of styles and which came across well when performed live by the trio’s top-drawer personnel. Interspersed among the originals was a handful of well-chosen standards, and taken as a whole their two sets were very listenable-to and accessible and kept their audience firmly engaged throughout. Nobody left! Matt’s web resources (website & YouTube) were easily sufficient to enable the club’s promoter to market their gig effectively and Matt also undertook some separate marketing of his own (which is always welcome). I’d recommend them to anyone!
