Advent is the period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas and also of preparation for the Second Coming of Christ. Each Sunday of this season, we will light the candles of the Advent wreath and prepare our hearts and minds for Jesus' arrival through readings that focus on Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. The final reading comes on Christmas Eve, with the lighting of the Christ candle.

Church Family Christmas Card Box

Are you sending Christmas cards this year? If you are, you don't need a stamp to get them to your church family! Thanks to Joyce Jackson for giving us the needed encouragement, we now have a box ready for you to drop your addressed cards in to easily share your Christmas greetings. Our Christmas Box is on the table in the Great Room right between the Angel Tree and the front door. On Monday, we will get the cards out and sort them into your Family File Folder, located in the black file box at the front desk. Bring your cards in on Sunday mornings or any time during the week that the building is open. Then, starting next week, check your Family File Folder to see if you have anything waiting for you! The file folders will always be available at the desk, anytime you have "mail" for a church family member. (If you don't see a Family File Folder with your name, that means we don't have your directory info, which is what was used to update the file box. Please let us know you are missing, send in your info, and we will gladly fix the box right up! Thanks!)

Joint Directory News

We are working diligently to provide you with a new directory of info for CGCC and CLC folks, combined. A rough draft will be posted in the Great Room this Sunday. Just look for the shiny silver and gold board on a stand and take a minute to peruse the papers posted there. It would be a super huge help if you could check your listings for accuracy. Don't see your name and want to be included? We would love to add you in! Just email your info - or corrections - to Jen Lynch or drop it on the front desk. We would like to have names, address, email, mobile and/or home phone numbers, birthdays, and anniversaries. Note paper and pens available by board. Thank you for your patience and assistance!

Rachel Checking on Her Directory Info

She had the great idea of initialing next to her listing to show it was correct. If yours is correct, initialing would help us to know that. Thanks, Rachel!

263485784 448957006800987 7572898635669523085 n

It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas!

All of our Angel Tree tags have gone home with folks, ready for Christmas shopping. THANK YOU! Gifts can be dropped off around the tree, during the week from 8:30am-2:30pm and on Sunday morning. Please remember to include your tag with the unwrapped gifts, so that they can be matched with the correct recipient. H&H board member Maryalice Surgenavic will be here on December 13 to provide drop off times in the afternoon and evening (11-6pm) for community members who cannot get here during the day. H&H volunteers will be here various days during December to organize and prepare. Then, on December 18, the Angel Tree families will come through our parking lot for a drive-thru pick up of gifts and food.

Heroes and Halos is a non-profit organization that reaches out to the community and provides Awareness, Education, Assistance, and Outreach Programs regarding Individuals with
Special Needs and Disabilities and their families. They are partnering with various
Churches, Schools, Businesses, Individuals, and Organizations to provide
Christmas Gifts to children with a developmental age of 18 years and younger.

Please drop gifts off here by Monday, December 13. Thank you!

Here We Come a Caroling

THIS Sunday, December 12, 2pm
The Deacons of CLC would like to invite everyone to join them in spreading some Christmas Cheer through song. If you would like to participate in this good old-fashioned time of caroling, dress for the weather, bring your singing voice and your holiday spirit, and come out for holiday fun. We will meet at CGCC to caravan to our stops where we will make a joyful noise! After our last stop, return to the church to get your car or head home, brimming with Christmas spirit. Everyone is welcome to be a part of this special afternoon of friendship and song.

Prayer

For whom are you praying today?
How can we pray for you?

We are here to pray with and for you, anytime! Prayer needs sent by early Monday morning will be included in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week!

Encouragement

Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing and Darla Smith for writing these weekly bits of encouragement.

"I pray all is well with everyone. God is great and greatly to be praised! He does marvelous things everyday in our lives. How blessed are we? As the Christmas season is approaching, my heart is overflowing with His love. When the angel Gabriel approached Mary and said, "You are the one that will bring forth the Light of the World!" Can you just imagine what emotions and feelings were racing through her at that moment? But amid her anxiousness – God gave her sweet peace."

"Which brings me to this week’s Word, “PEACE.” How many of us could use God’s sweet “peace” to overshadow us? I know of so many families and friends that have such unrest in their lives. The devil loves to distract us so we don't have “peace.” I must tell on myself. I let the distractions and business of my day cause me to lose my temper and take it out on someone I love dearly. I let the distractions steal my “peace.” As soon as it happened, the Holy Spirit quickened my heart and I needed to make it right. Everyday we need to dwell in God’s “peace.” Having a close relationship with Him will help us live in “peace” that passes all understanding. It's a “peace” like no other. In His Holy Presence, there is such “peace.” With the Holy Spirit guiding us every step of the way, He will keep us in perfect “peace” because our thoughts will be on Him. Side note: “peace” is in the bible over 429 times. Seems like it's so important to dwell in “peace.” I challenge us to keep the “peace.” No matter what – keep the “peace.” Let us pray every morning, Holy Spirit, keep me in “peace.” The Holy Spirit will keep us in line if we let him lead the way. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for teaching me a great lesson on “peace” this week so I can share with all of you. Live in God’s sweet “peace.” "

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)

News of the Week

Another short week at GG. Everyone was glad to be back together on Wednesday! We had a marathon of jam making. Then we finished off the afternoon cleaning toys and chairs to keep those germs at bay.

Today is another jam focused day. Plus, we also whipped up some homemade bread. It's a good thing our crew loves being in the kitchen together!

Now that cold weather...and snow...have arrived, we will be inside more. But, we do take any opportunity to get outside and work or have fun. We hope to bundle up and take a walk through the woods tomorrow, in between our chores like cleaning the building.

Jungle Jam & Juicy Jam

Jungle Jam and Juicy Jam are available in several flavors at Reach for the STARS in Salem and in Columbiana at the Chamber of Commerce office. We are also glad to arrange a pick up at GG.

Jungle Jam: Blueberry Jalapeno, Cranberry Jalapeno, Hot,
Pineapple Habanero, Cherry Habanero, Dragon
Juicy Jam: Cranberry Orange

Due to the success of the two shows we were at last weekend, our jam inventory is low and we may not yet have your flavor. Please be patient as our crew works on replenishing our jam supply and big thanks to all the shoppers at the Flea and at Canfield High School!

Homemade apple butter ~ a few jars still available here, $5 per jar.

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
