Composiciones (Compositions) compliments the Barcelona Gallery Weekendprogramme of exhibitions and events with five interventions that respond to singular private and public spaces outside the contemporary art circuit – including a public library with important holdings on the labour movement and the stables of the Barcelona City Police.
The project explores Barcelona as a rich fabric of the historic and the contemporary, the unfamiliar and the conspicuous. Developing from the artists’ responses to the specificity of each context—people as well as places—the five commissions offer moments of intermission, intimacy and bewilderment throughout the weekend, highlighting some lesser-known aspects of the city’s cultural heritage and municipal life.
