Dear Friends & Partners,
Bill C-11, the internet censorship bill, has now passed through the House of Commons.
Members of Parliament did not accept the Senate's recommended amendments. This means that the bill has gone back to the Senate, and senators will need to decide if they accept it as is or reject it.
There is a real chance that the Senate could pass the bill next week -- unless they hear from enough Canadians asking them not to.
If this bill passes, it will give the government elevated control over what Canadians see online and can post. This is the first of a few bills the government has in motion.
Many free speech advocates have flagged this bill as dangerous to free speech in Canada.
Please take a moment to email the Senators ASAP to ask them not to approve C-11.

WHAT TO WRITE?
Often people ask for a template letter to send. We have found that template letters are much less effective than when you write a sentence or two in your own words.
Here are a few key points you can make:
▪ free speech is a fundamental pillar of democracy
▪ government should not be in the business of regulating what is considered Canadian content
▪ government should not be involved in determining what Canadians can say and see
▪ content creators across all political spectrums are opposed to this bill; please listen to them
