 | Greetings Friends, Happy almost NEW year chachacha I hope you all had a wonderful holiday celebration and are looking forward to a new year brimming with creativity. Classes start in a few weeks and we are really excited to begin again. This is a long stretch in-between sessions and it has been fun to have some festive birthday celebrations and holiday workshops. Caleb, as always, is completely jazzed to be seeing you all in just a few weeks for the start of his Saturday workshops. I am thrilled to welcome back renowned illustrator Kate Adams who has been abroad for a time, illustrated 5 books, and designed a board game. Kate is a super talent and returning to offer a kids class and an adult class in scratch board illustration. You can check out her fabulous talents and visit Kate Adams illustrator on the web. We are super excited to have her back. I am loving the birthdays and badge opportunities, and Lauri and I are ready to rock into the new year with enthusiasm and good cheer. Dawn is looking forward to her valentine workshop and is talking about starting a scrap book night. Experience the fun and intricate technique of scratchboard in this wildlife-themed class. Students will learn the fundamentals of depicting light and shadow by first creating drawings on black paper and then diving into the medium of scratchboard, a board that starts black and scratches away to reveal brilliant white lines. They will work from beautiful black-and-white images of various exotic animals to create their drawings and final scratchboard projects. Create luminous black-and-white scratchboards inspired by nature. Beginning with drawing exercises that explore the use of light and line work, we will then transition to a final project in scratchboard. A relaxing and methodical technique that mimics the appearance of an engraving, we will scratch away the black surface of the board to reveal the brilliant white surface underneath. Scratchboards will be based on nature photographs provided by Kate. If you have taken classes with Caleb than you know he is always on fire with great ideas and brings out the best in everyone with an incredible amount of fun and camaraderie. His classes sort of take on their own zany ways, and are filled with laughter and major entertainment. For the veteran cartoonists they will continue to work on writing, drawing, and completing an extended 3-5 page comic book with an original story and characters. New students after a brief explanation of the basics will begin to work on writing, drawing, and completing a 1-2 page comic book with original stories and characters. Caleb works with the group on drawing lessons and individually.
