Masters Master Biathlon

Biathlon 005 1

7 Masters (age 15+) are enjoying learning and further developing their shooting and skiing skills on Saturday mornings, under the direction of coach Phil Douglas. This is a great opportunity for SNSC adults to take some time for themselves and challenge their mental focus with their physical ability. There is no need to have any prior experience with shooting for this program. If you think you might be interested in adding Biathlon to your nordic experience, we welcome you to come to the Give It A Shot! program on Sunday March 19th to try it out. Registration is available on zone4. SNSC members receive a registration discount for this event - just $15.

If you would like to jump right in with a biathlon race, our 2nd club race is happening on Saturday Feb 25th. Registration is available on zone 4 as well. Non-VIBC club members must attend a mandatory safety briefing prior to the race. See the race notice for details.

SNAP Explores Biathlon

Coach Dan Lemay and his intrepid group of Strathcona Nordic Adventure Program (SNAP) skiers recently discovered the unique and exciting sport of biathlon. There were 8 participants, many of the whom were trying biathlon for the first time and in one case had never even shot a rifle. After some instruction, and a bit of practice, everyone was hitting their targets — and skiing penalty loops for any missed shots! The session was capped off with a real biathlon race! Competition for the symbolic podium was tight, and imaginary gold, silver and two bronze medals were awarded. Special thanks to SNAP-dad Pawel Palkiewicz and Vancouver Island Biathlon Club coaches Blair Pettis and Kai Sonnenburg for hosting the session.
