Hi folks! The big news this week of course is that the sophomore Cotton + Steel collections have arrived ! Melody, Alexia, Rashida, Sarah and Kim are all back with collections with quilting cotton, lawn and canvas components, and we're super excited about the collaborative Double Gauze group! We started off the day at 5 below zero here in Upstate New York, so we are more than happy to stay indoors to the tune of our sewing machines - lots and lots of fabric to keep us busy! |

The word Playful at once describes both the collection, and the designer herself! Melody Miller's sophomore collection for Cotton + Steel is a nostalgic look back on "games to play on a rainy day." If you're a child of the 80's, you'll fondly remember indoor fun, playing with Backgammon Boards, Jacks, Viewfinders, and Word Search Puzzles. |

Sneak Peek of Alexia's new Bag Pattern for Green Bee Design! |
From sunrise to twilight, this line offers a pretty good idea of what it's like to be out on a Mesa. I can just picture miss Alexia Abegg with sketchbook in hand and a lunch basket of tacos at her side, no doubt as jack rabbits scurry about while a lonely coyote howls. With her next line for Cotton + Steel, she's crafted a beautiful story set on a flat desert expanse. |

Scattered Rice Border Prints on Linen-Canvas! |
Named for the traditional (and delicious!) Japanese rice cake, Rashida Coleman Hale's newest collection for Cotton + Steel celebrates Eastern culture and style. Mochi showcases a vibrant, jewel toned color palette tempered by Rashida's minimalist approach to design.
The scattered rice border prints are elegant yet fun, and certainly are one of the shining features of the collection. But we're also quite drawn to the Moon Bunnies. We had to wrestle the vague storybook tales from our brains, with a little help from Wikipedia we'll grant! The design is a beautiful homage to Asian folklore. |

The newest collection from Sarah Watts for Cotton and Steel offers us a glimpse of what one might see on a Tokyo Train Ride. Forests home to bunnies and foxes zoom past, with Mt Fugi looming proudly in the background. It looks like perhaps Sarah stopped off in the Harajuku district, known internationally as a center of Japanese youth culture and fashion, including many small, youth oriented, independent boutiques |

Cotton and Steel + Hawthorne Threads at market! |
From the octopi, it looks like Sarah enjoyed a mystery meal or two! Becky, Meaghan, and I were so happy to catch up with Rashida, Alexia, and Sarah (modeling her octopi no less!)

Free Flirt Quilt Project from WIndham! |
Use Flirt by Another Point of View to create a look that is at once modern and retro. With a nod to mid-century mod design, these small all-over patterns recall a time of fascination with the future - little doodles recall circuits or mod lampshades and circles look like the drink stains after a fun party! The unique colors of tangerine, chartreuse, orchid and stone are just as cool today as they were when Mad Men were king and poodle skirts were all the rage!
We have yardage and Fat Quarter Bundles, and don't miss the Free Quilt Project from Windham Fabrics! |
Sarah Watson's newest collection for Cloud 9 Organic Fabrics features wistfully lyrical designs, reading like a naturalist's sketchbook. Biology's lush flowers, dewy meadows, and hand-drawn butterflies offer a poetic landscape sophisticated enough for adults but with enough sweetness to charm little boys and girls as well! |
