A group of six are heading to Luray Virginia to assist Luray Church of the Brethren with clearing land for Pastor Mike's mom and helping to supply four families with firewood for winter heating. With the pandemic and the quarantine resulting in job losses and economic hardship for many, food insecurity issues have increased in our valley and across the country. As a way to reach out and help our
community, we have decided to collect donations for the
Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. From the Food Bank's website: "In 2019, Second Harvest Food Bank distributed more than 11.5 million pounds of food to hungry individuals and families in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re already on pace to considerably exceed that amount in 2020. As of the end of March, the Food Bank had already distributed 41 percent more food compared to the same time period last year." After the Coat & Clothing Giveaway, we will put up our collection area for non-perishable food items as well monetary donations. It's all hands on deck on Saturday, October 3 from 10am-1pm for a work party out front! The awnings in the raised bed garden area need to be re-covered with plastic. (And, our goal is to have this done before the Coat & Clothing (& More!) Giveaway so that we can utilize that space for items, too!) We have the plastic and now we just need the workers. If you are comfortable climbing a ladder, using tools, and helping to unroll and hook down a new layer of plastic to keep us all dry...we've got the job for you! We will have a sign up sheet out on Sunday morning, but you are also welcome to stop by that day if you suddenly find yourself able to join in. If you have work gloves and ladders that are 8-12 feet tall, please bring them with you. | Youth Group Annual Corn Maze Visit Sunday, October 11, 4-7pm
Autumn means it is time for the Youth Group's traditional visit to the corn maze - and you are invited! Head on out, bring your family, and join the youth for some seasonal fun, all ages welcome. We will meet at the Rolling Acres Corn Maze in Leetonia at 4pm. We'll assemble for a group photo and then families and groups can head into the maze or enjoy the extras, however they choose. A parent or responsible adult must be present for the duration. Pricing:

Much. Weeding.), harvesting and getting ready for the final CSA of 2020, and carrying bags and boxes of new donations for the Giveaway. On Wednesday, we even brought all the stored donations down from the Green Room, filling up the Sprouts Room and the Nursery. There hasn't been a dull moment! We even had a particularly interesting butterfly release, as our winged friend didn't actually want to leave the jar he had adopted as his home. On Tuesday, we happily greeted the delivery driver who brought a giant roll of plastic for the awnings out front. Rachel and Jade pitched right in, helping to carry the 80lb. box to the greenhouse for storage until the October 3 work day. Sadly, this is our last week with our intern, Jade. We have been so lucky to have her on our crew this season! She and her family are moving out of the area. We wish her all the best as she embarks on this exciting, new adventure. "So we know that last year there were no Proms. This was very disappointing to us at DIVA Donations and to students across the country. We have decided this this fall we are going to hold a different kind of Prom where we do not have to worry about anyone possibly getting sick. We are holding a "Bootiful Prom!" So, we're inviting anyone across the Ohio Valley area to create a scarecrow for our Prom. The one with the most votes will become our Prom King and Queen. Families and individuals in our area are invited to come to DIVA Donations on September 26th to pick up your scarecrow kits for a $5 donation which includes picking out your dress from our "Bootiful Boutique filled with dresses that might be out of date, stained, or torn and that can not be used by our DIVAs" for your scarecrow to be entered into our prom contest. Your $5 donation entitles you to be entered. Your scarecrow will be posted on our Facebook page where people will vote for the winner. Wrapped books are back! Are you looking to add variety to your reading selection? Books of all genres will be wrapped from adult, young adult, and children’s departments. All wrapped books will contain an entry slip for a prize drawing with a winner chosen from each department. Come in and check out or ask for curbside pickup.
