Confirmation and Reformation Sunday
This Sunday, October 30, six of our ninth graders who have completed our two-year Confirmation Program will affirm their faith during the 9:00 worship service. This is also Reformation Sunday, and everyone is encouraged to wear red in celebration of the Holy spirit’s work in the lives of these confirmands, as well as all of God’s people.

Join us as we celebrate our confirmands in the cafe with cake following the 9:00 service.

don t forget

Stewardship: We are in the midst of Stewardship Season at St. Mark. This year, we will take the entire month of October to reflect on how we pledge our whole selves to our mission statement, “Growing in Faith, Sharing God’s Grace.” Because of that, our goal is two-fold: To meet our financial needs for 2023, and to commit our time and talents to our many ministry needs. Throughout the month, we will have the opportunity to pledge to these goals by placing our pledges in the offering plate or mailing them in. Click here to submit your pledge online.

Along with a pledge card, there are servant commitment forms that can be turned in. There will be a basket in the Narthex to put your completed servant forms in or mail them to the office.

Extra planned for giving cards and servant commitment forms are in the narthex. Thank you for prayerfully considering your commitment to the mission we share!

The book is Behold the Dreamers, by Imbolo Mbue, and will be reviewed by Carol Malmgren. Please RSVP to Jane at jrichlun@gmail.com or 815-978-5882. Our December book will be The Last Green Valley by Mark Sullivan.

crosses

St Mark Crosses

Whew! Bob will be happy to know that you still have a love for his special design cross he created for our parishioners of St Mark. As you may know, Bob is no longer crafting these crosses and this will be your last opportunity to collect one. As of last Sunday, the large crosses are NO longer available; we have about 14 of the small size and a couple dozen of the medium size still available. When as lector or communion assistant on Sunday, one may find it a very special time to wear your cross. All proceeds from the sale of the crosses will be sent to St. Joseph's Indian School, Lakota (Sioux) culture in Chamberlain, SD. This is a school to educate and also feed and clothe the young students. Special thanks to those who made donations to the Indigenous Native Americans who purchased crosses in previous years.

All Saints' Sunday
Next Sunday, November 6 we are celebrating All Saints Sunday. We will again participate in one of the oldest traditions of the church. On this day each year, the church honors “that great cloud of witnesses of other
times and other places…” (Hebrews 12:1) who have died in the faith. In particular, we will remember the “saints” of St. Mark who have died in the past twelve months.

nursery

Nursery Volunteers Wanted!
The nursery is open during the 9:00 and 11:00 services but is in need of volunteers. You can sign up here: Nursery Volunteer Sign-Up. Adults and youth are welcome, but youth under 16 need to serve in pairs.

Children are and always will be welcome in worship here at St. Mark, but we also recognize that nursery care can be a helpful option. There may be times when the nursery is open but no volunteer is available. In this case, you are still welcome to use the space to play or relax with your child. We are always looking for ways to better support our members and visitors. If you have questions or want more information, please email julie@stmarklc.com.

Outreach Ministry

Angel Tree

Foster Children's Christmas Gifts
St. Mark will participate in the Winnebago Boone Foster Care Alliance "Adopt-an Angel" program again this year.

The agency will deliver gift tags to the church the week of November 1st. The "Angel" tags will include the child's name, age, race, and three suggested gifts items.

The tags will be available at church on Sunday, November 6th, and the deadline for bringing the gifts will be Sunday, November 27th. Be sure to put your name and phone number on the form when you sign up.

We have requested 40 angel tags to distribute. There will be a display starting Sunday, November 6th, and we are confident that our members will participate joyfully again this year. Thank you from the Outreach Committee.

Blankets for Rock House Kids
Winter is coming and the Sew and Sews, our active quilting group, will again be making cozy fleece blankets for the children at Rock House Kids.

The budget is tight this year and the Sew and Sews will be unable to purchase the fleece throws for our St. Mark members to sew together. We have researched ways to continue our support of this project.

Options for our St. Mark members:

Buy 2 "Mainstay" Fleece Throws, 50 x 60 inches, $3.78 each at Walmart. Sew them together or put them in the Red Truck in Fellowship Hall, and the Sew and Sews will sew them together. Choose colorful, contrasting prints.

Buy a "Wild Frontier," 50 by 60 inches, Plush Throw at Walmart. No sewing required. $9.98 each. Just put it in the Red Truck.

Buy a "Make It Gift It" fleece kit for $10.99 at JoAnn Fabrics. There are 2 throws, 48 by 72 inches, in the kit. Sew them together or put the kit in the Red Truck and the Sew and Sews will sew them together. Avoid the Christmas patterns so the blanket will be useful all year.

Thank you for helping us keep the children warm. Donate any time in the months of November and December.
