February 2021

Dear friends,

This month we have news of webinars on divestment, an update to our climate-themed Bible study resource and news of a forthcoming global divestment announcement. There is an opportunity for Operation Noah supporters to help us push the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill up the political agenda.

We have also recently welcomed four new trustees to the Operation Noah board and are excited about the new skills and experience they bring.

Listen back: Methodist divestment webinar

Earlier this month we hosted a webinar for Methodists on divestment. We were delighted that almost 400 of you were able to join us. The webinar explored how the Methodist Church can support a just and green recovery from Covid-19 ahead of COP26 by divesting from fossil fuels and investing in clean alternatives.

Bill McKibben, keynote speaker and founder of 350.org, expressed his gratitude to faith groups in the UK, including Operation Noah, ‘who have been making this case (for divestment) for a decade’. He said that COP26 in Glasgow this year, ‘could be a moment of great hope and great power’, describing the growing power of the climate movement as seeing, ‘the Holy Spirit at work’.

Tenants of the King - Leaders Notes Updated

We have recently updated the leaders’ notes for our four-session Jesus-centred Bible study resource, Tenants of the King. As the study is now a few years old we wanted to make sure it was fit for purpose in this year of both climate emergency and climate opportunity. The course is ideal for those with little knowledge or acceptance of the climate crisis and the theological basis for action. We have also added subtitles to the videos.

▪ Both the videos and the leaders’ notes are now freely available here.
▪ Participant booklets (pdf and hardcopy) and the videos on a usb stick can be purchased on our website.
