FARMING AT GLYNWOOD

Community Supported Agriculture

CSA season kicks off the first week of June and shares are still available. For the first time this year, we have partnered with Philipstown Food Pantry to offer subsidized CSA shares to families in need. To determine if you are eligible, contact Andy Reid at the food pantry, or you can make a donation earmarked for a subsidized share through our online store.

Of note, we are applying for USDA organic certification for our vegetable operation. Our current Certified Naturally Grown growing practices already meet or exceed the national organic standards. The organic application process has been a valuable learning opportunity for our farmer apprentices. Our website provides more information about our vegetable operation and our farmer apprentice programs.

Buying Our Products

Our Farm Store officially opens for the season over Memorial Day weekend, but you can preview the store during Food + Farm Day. Our winter sales hours will continue at the Farm Office on Thursdays from 3-6pm until our grand re-opening.

Our meat special for May, which continues at our Farm Office this Thursday, is for Rib Steaks, on sale for $12.80/lb (normally $16/lb). Our plant sale also continues this week. If you can’t make it to Glynwood for our eggs, they are now available for purchase at Obercreek’s Farm Stand.

UPCOMING EVENTS

PROMOTING REGIONAL FOOD

Cider Week Hudson Valley

CiderWeekHVlogo

Cider Week is less than a month away, and new events are being added daily! Our annual cider celebration takes place on June 12th-21st. More than 80 restaurants, bars and retail shops will be joining us in celebrating our region’s orchard-based hard cider.

Hudson Valley Chefs Network

Our Hudson Valley Chefs Network is launching a seed-grow out in partnership with Hudson Valley Seed Library and Slow Food USA for which regional growers will plant an heirloom bean variety that originates from Ghent, NY. Participating chefs will then feature the distinctive “Hank’s Bean” on their menus this fall. Through this initiative, we are engaging culinary professionals and providing them with ways to best support farmerss in our region.

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week

HVRW

For the first time, we are partnering with Valley Table as an educational sponsor of the next Hudson Valley Restaurant Week and will be offering opportunities to participating restaurants to connect with and support regional agriculture. Workshops are currently being organized around goat meat and hard cider–two value-added products that are distinct to the Hudson Valley.

CONVENING CHANGEMAKERS

James Beard Boot Camp

The James Beard Foundation’s Chefs Boot Camp for Policy and Change returns to Glynwood next month. This program provides chefs with advocacy training and farm education so they can become effective leaders for food systems change. More information about our convenings and collaborations is on our website.
