Crazy for Ewe this week

We had a lovely evening last Thursday at the Shibui Trunk Show opening reception. With such special garments, we wanted the shop to look equally special. Duffy made two dramatic Ikebana arrangements, there was wine and sushi -- standing room only. It really did look very elegant in the shop, and I think everyone had a great time. On an average day it's a little messy - there are projects on the table and knitting bags on the floor. The tools of our trade are out and in use as we teach and swatch and fix and block in the process of helping you knit beautiful things. I like this environment, but every now and then it's nice to tuck away the tools and focus instead on the beautiful end products. You know, be a little glam like Thursday night. One customer that evening came into the shop and said, "Wow - you clean up pretty good."

When we knit a sweater, it's kind of the same. You pull out this curled up strip of fabric that's been wadded up in your knitting bag. It doesn't look very special. Non-knitters look at your work in progress and politely ask what your are making. They seem interested, but continue reading

Finally! We've been anticipating this fun knitalong ever since TNNA, and now it's here! Knitalong on the beautiful Noro Mirai Crescent Shawl Knitalong with Lisa M. Barnes on her blog and with our own Mary, live and in person right here in the shop!

Starting tomorrow, join Mary Wednesday afternoons at 2, to cast on and place those gorgeous custom stitch markers (handmade by Ann Tudor, and get started on this fun shawl. Mary has already finished one, so you can see it in person, and she'll be starting on another to work along with you.

Beurre cream

It's not too late to join us for our August First Friday project. With its crescent shape and eyelet detail Beurre is a wonderfully wearable wrap. Worked from the ruffled edge up, this is one of those projects that goes faster and faster as you go, rather than getting bigger and slower. It's a really compelling approach. Lots to knit while you're enthusiastic, and lots less as the thrill wanes ;)

Stop by and choose your color, or you can order a kit online

twp at a time toe up

In this three session class, you'll learn to knit socks from the toe up two at a time on two circular needles. Jenny, our Sock Guru, loves toe up because you can make the cuff as long as you like and use every inch of your yarn. It's a whole different process (and a different heel technique) than working socks from the cuff down, but I think you'll find it intuitive and fun - especially with Jenny leading the way.

Because they're worked two-at-a-time, there's no more second sock syndrome - when you're done, you're done! If you're

balmy medium

We're having fun with Jenny's Balmy Knitalong. Folks are finishing up their ribbing and getting excited about moving on to the stripes. Deciding where to change colors has been much discussed. Jenny is doing a Fibonacci sequence, which always looks nice.

Some folks are doing Balmy in one variegated color which is also absolutely beautiful. It's not too late to get started -- Join us Saturdays at 2 p.m. for the Balmy Knitalong!
