April is a good month to be alive, isn't it!

Here, it is also a good month to be AWAKE.

As in, guess who just woke UP?!?

(HINT: the sleepyhead in question has bright orange cheek patches and a sweet olive shell.)

It is so good to have Bruce back in action, lighting up our little corner of the planet with his whirling red eyes and unfettered enthusiasm for anything that even vaguely resembles a lady box turtle.

With the official arrival of Spring, Malti is now living outdoors full-time, of course. Her mama misses her company indoors, which makes one of us (her feathery brother hasn't made much - okay, any - effort to hide his delight).

Speaking of feathers, Pearl is finally through with his first big molt of 2021. Perfectly timed as usual to coincide with the start of the action-packed spring nesting season.

He has some truly stellar nest locations picked out and all feathered and ready - the (former) bathroom towel basket being a particular favorite of late.

As for me, I am just so happy to have found a new home for our little flock over on Mammalz, the nature app that is redefining access to the world's wildest and most wonderful spaces.
