25 Summer Sewing Projects + My Fabric Face Mask Tips

Greetings Quilty Friends!

Happy July everyone! Nice to see you all again. I hope that summer is treating you well. I'm still in a little bit of disbelief that this we've somehow made it halfway through this super strange never-ending year of 2020! That thought is giving me some hope.

I'm also in a little bit of disbelief that we're already nearly half-way through summer.

I keep finding some really fun summer-themed sewing and quilting projects and decided to compile a list of many of my favorites all in one place.

Even if you're not looking to start a new project right now, just scrolling through these sunny, colorful projects will cheer you up!

This week I've been on a fabric mask making kick.

In addition to finding some comfortable elastic, I've also found a mask pattern/method that has worked best for me. I can now make a bunch relatively quickly as well as resize simply.

Click below for all of my mask tips and recommendations as well as source for the soft, comfortable elastic.

Hint: one of my favorite mask tips: use cute fabric. I find myself even more motivated to wear a mask if it's out of fabric like this fun Liberty quilting cotton.

Fun Foundation Paper-piecing projects on the Web:

A handful of the summer patterns I shared above are made with Foundation Paper-Piecing techniques. Have you tried FPP? It's definitely a different ball game than tradition piecing and takes some practice to get the hang of this new technique.

But once you do, there are SO many places you can go with this technique to make some really detailed designs with fabric . The paper-foundation means that you can accurately create complex shapes that would be very difficult piecing them traditionally.

Here are a few fun FPP resources:

If you're looking for a great introduction and basic patterns for starting, visit Leila Gardunia's Guide to Foundation Paper Piecing.

This cute heart pattern is by Susan of Quilty Pie - she's got a variety of adorable FPP patterns in a range of difficulty levels.

Sewing Room Status

Last of all - here is a little sneak peek of what is going on in my sewing room right now - in addition to masks, I'm also working on the layout of my Riley Blake Block Challenge quilt.

I decided to go with a little wild and scrappy. My goal this weekend is to get the blocks pieced together so that I can then explain to everyone how to do it in as simple a manner as possible. Wish me luck! haha

Hope you have the best week possible.

Air-hugs to all of you.

xo,

Amy
