The Sun entered Virgo on Sat., Aug. 23rd and the New Moon in Virgo on Monday asked us to set intentions in alignment with this sign. Earth sign Virgo will help us ground intentions for practical service in whatever field we work in. The Sun's transit through Leo helped us heal the inner child, play creatively with our natural talents, and lovingly share our gifts with others. Now Virgo will help us fine tune those talents in practical application so that we can reap the rewards of selfless service.
The Virgo maiden of the harvest is always depicted holding wheat which she will use to feed the hungry people, and our inner Virgo aspect wants nothing more than to serve others in the most efficient and effective way, so that they can be healthy, happy and whole. The process of service keeps us grounded in the now as we focus in the sequence of actions which make up the process. The desire to serve arises from Virgo's opposite sign Pisces, which enables us to feel the bliss of union with the divine. In this union we feel empathy, love and compassion for others and seek to serve them to relieve suffering.
True liberation is found only through the relentless and dedicated inner journey into source, yet that liberated state can only be maintained in the eternal now process of service. We can only keep what we have by giving it away! And the practical process of service enables the enhancement of surrender into the ineffable. Virgo not only wants to give selflessly, but she desires to alchemically enhance what is given. This alchemy which enhances the qualities of things is sourced in the magic of the Great Mystery - that which is beyond understanding and can only be felt in the deep silence of profound meditation, far beyond all mental concepts.
Mikao Usui, the father of Reiki
When Mikao Usui achieved liberation after 21 days of fasting and meditation on Mt. Kurama, he came down off the mountain into the valley and served the suffering people. His heart had become one with the one heart of all that is, and the divine love flowed through his hands. He called this medicine Reiki! His awakening was so profound, his medicine so pure, that it lives on today, almost 90 yrs after his death, in the hearts and hands of millions of Reiki practitioners all over the world.
When Quan Yin achieved liberation, the gods welcomed her into heaven. They said, "Congratulations Quan Yin! You can now rest at peace in the transcendental bliss of Nirvana forever!". But she said, "No, I will not, because there are still millions of people suffering on Earth. I will keep reincarnating on Earth and serve the people until every last one achieves liberation!"

When Nisargadatta Maharaj achieved liberation at age 36, he was a humble family man in the ghetto of Bombay who made his living selling cigarettes. In his awakened state he walked barefoot all over India, visiting dozens of sacred sites. While in Delhi, he met a wise old yogi who told him to go back home and share his wisdom with the people. He took this to heart and walked all the way back to Bombay. For the next 50 years he tirelessly shared the message of liberation with thousands of people who came from all corners of the globe to hear him speak in his small tenement apartment. His words live on in a book of transcriptions of his spontaneous talks with devotees called I Am That, one of the greatest spiritual classics of all time.
Nisargadatta
When one person sheds the illusions and recovers their natural god - self, the heart expands to embrace the infinite expanse of creation and they become a Bodhisattva who embarks on the never ending path of selfless service. This creates a ripple effect which touches all beings everywhere. Selfishness entraps us in a prison of our own making. Selflessness frees us to experience a world in which the essences of all things are intimately linked. It's all a matter of attitude. We can choose to live in a world of barriers or one of bonds. The stars of the Virgo constellation reflect our own inner stellar nature which when realized, radiates love and light to all beings. We are asking that the most benevolent energies that are available for us be all around and all about us, and that they flow through us in selfless service to all beings forever!

Deer Spirit Reiki Circle will not meet on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1st. We will be back on the following Monday. The circle has undergone a big revival lately with large turnouts. Being Present in The Now
If you are following a spiritual path or practice, you have no doubt heard the phrase "being present in the now". It sounds so basic and even simple, but how many of us are able to truly dwell in the present moment? Probably not many. So what gets in the way? It's the past and the future that get in the way of the present. A lot of the time we are not really embodying our present lived experience. Our body may be present but our minds may be reliving some upsetting scenario from the past or dwelling on a past delight, or our minds may be worrying about some future event or anticipating something we look forward to. In such cases our minds are not present with the body, they are roaming the mental highways and may be far away. Being present in the moment requires that we can be centered and aware and sensorily awake and focused on the lived experience that is unfolding in the present. We can do this some of the time, but it can be very challenging to continuously be in this present space. Why is such a fundamental thing so challenging? It's the conditioning in our systems that makes reliving the past and worrying or anticipating the future so "sticky." We attribute certain meanings to events. We create stories about our lives and we identify with these creations of our minds and psyches. The more we identify with them the more they pull our attention to them, and this pulls awareness out of the present moment. However, as we thin out the conditioning and the identification with our stories and meaning making habits it becomes easier to experience the freshness of life as it unfolds; to be more present. Or, sometimes Eternity breaks through our linear time consciousness and we are simply in the present moment as it floats. Great art can do this, or ceremonies that lift us into the timeless, like weddings and funerals. I think that one of the things that makes art great is this opening it creates for Eternity to spill through. As I was writing this I kept thinking of Cat Stevens' (Yusuf Islam) sweet hymn of praise, Morning Has Broken. The words capture the spirit of being in the present moment.

Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world.
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dew fall, on the first grass

In this session Geordie and I will be channeling to clear blocks in our systems that get in the way of our experience of the present moment. We will be making use of VortexHealing® Divine Energy Healing, Angelic Liquid Light Healing and other forms of energy healing.

I'll be teaching Karuna Reiki® on Sun., Sept. 21st, (Level 1) Sat., Sept. 27th (Level 2) and Sun., Sept. 28th (Master Teacher) at Madison Wellness Center. Many of you have expressed interest in taking these classes, _which I only teach once a year. _ You must have completed your Usui Reiki Master Teacher Training in order to take these classes. You can take just Level 1 & 2 if you don't want to teach it. If you complete the Karuna Master Teacher class you will be registered with the ICRT as a Karuna Reiki® Master Teacher and be entitled to issue their certificates to your students.
The next Shamanic Healing Circle w/ Carolina Encalada and I will be next Thurs., Sept. 4th, $20, 7pm - 10pm at Madison Wellness (Theme TBA). Please feel free to bring your shaman's drum, rattle, crystals, flowers or power objects for the altar and fruit or snacks for the spirit offering basket. Ever since we started these circles last Spring, they've been well attended and very powerful. Every session includes shamanic invocations of the powers of the 7 directions, living prayers and traditional limpieza (cleansing of the body and energy field), Carolina and I willshare the teachings related to the theme and lead shamanic drum journeys and dancing.

This circle is open to the general public - you do not have to be attuned to Reiki to attend and receive treatment. If you are attuned to Reiki, any level or lineage, you are welcome to come and give and receive treatment. We start with a guided meditation and then give 1/2 hr. treatments. If you wish to be re - attuned to your current level of Usui or Karuna Reiki, I will do it. (donations accepted but not required for re - attunements).
