Stay Connected Virtually
Any other season and we'd be rolling into the second week of organized team practices. But if our current conditions are teaching us anything, it's flexibility and adaptability. Though we've been forced to delay the start of regular season practices and in-person activities, it doesn't mean full stop. Teams can still gather virtually.
Video conferencing applications are great for staying connected, building community and disseminating content. Zoom has awesome features like viewing all cameras simultaneously and breakout rooms where people can meet in small groups. Google Meet (formerly Google Hangouts) integrates directly into Google calendar and gmail so setting up a meeting is easy as pie.
You can give student-athletes training tasks and have them record their results on Strava as part of team-wide challenges. Strava team pages show recent rides, weekly leaderboards and allow discussions between members.
Virtual gatherings are no different than in-person activities when it comes to maintaining core values so remember to follow the league's Electronic Communication and Social Media Guidelines.
Once we see the peak in COVID-19 cases and Arizona's numbers track on a sustained decline – assuming we reach that mark within the next six weeks – we will open team gatherings to more conventional preseason activities prior the revised start of the regular season on August 17.
