EUGEO, the Association of Geographical Societies in Europe, organises every two years a major international scientific congress, bringing together geographers from all over the world.

After Amsterdam, London, Bratislava, Rome and Budapest in 2015, where over 600 participants attended the congress, EUGEO 2017 will take place in Brussels in the prestigious Palace of the Academies, at short distance from the Grand Place.

Geography for Europe is the theme of this congress to be held in the European Capital. The theme covers the many aspects of the geography of Europe as well as the contribution of geography to the development of Europe, and the problems the continent has to face.

The format of the congress will be based on thematic sessions where topical issues relevant for Europe and Geography will be presented and discussed.

Presentations will be in English or French. We ask participants who communicate in French to accompany their oral paper with a PowerPoint presentation in English.

Call for Sessions

The format of the congress will be based on thematic sessions, organized around problems that Europe and European geographers face.

The definitive list of the sessions will be announced in the Second Circular and Call for Presentations, which will be disseminated at the beginning of 2017, with the names of the chairs of the sessions.

At this stage, we launch a Call for Sessions : everybody or any scientific research group wanting to propose the organisation of a session (preferably with the name of the chairperson), is asked to send an email before January 12th, 2017 to the secretary of the congress (srbg@ulb.ac.be) providing the theme and a short description of his/her proposition, and possibly already a first list of potential participants. Paper sessions as well as (panel)discussion sessions can be prosed. The Scientific Committee will advise on the session proposals.

Call for presentations (papers, discussion sessions and posters) will be lauched in january 2017. The deadline for sending proposals for presentations will be fixed at the end of March.

Registration

Registration will be open after the second newsletter is issued at the beginning of 2017. We intend to keep the costs at a minimum rate, so as to encourage the widest possible participation, especially of students and young researchers.

We expect the registration fee to be around 280 € for the regular participants and 140 € for students and young researchers.

The Geographical Societies that are member of EUGEO will have the possibility to offer one or two grants, to cover the costs of registration and travel for young researchers.

Après Amsterdam, Londres, Bratislava, Rome et Budapest en 2015, où plus de 500 participants ont assisté au congrès, EUGEO 2017 se tiendra à Bruxelles dans les prestigieux locaux du Palais des Académies, à une encablure de la Grand-Place.

Geographie pour l'Europe, le thème de ce congrès qui se tiendra dans la capitale européenne, recouvre les divers aspects de la géographie de l'Europe et les problèmes que le continent doit affronter. Il entend aussi illustrer la contribution des géographes à la construction européenne.

Les présentations se feront en français ou en anglais. Nous demandons aux participants souhaitant s'exprimer en français de prévoir en parallèle un PowerPoint en langue anglaise.

Les travaux du congrès seront organisés autour de sessions thématiques où des problématiques pertinentes pour l'Europe et la Géographie seront discutées.

La liste définitive des sessions thématiques sera annoncée dans la seconde circulaire, qui sera diffusée au début de 2017, avec les noms des présidents de session.

A ce stade, nous lançons un appel à l'organisation des sessions : les chercheurs ou groupes de recherches souhaitant proposer l'organisation d'une session (et éventuellement le nom d'un président) sont priés d'envoyer un courriel avant le 12 janvier 2017 au secrétariat du congrès (srbg@ulb.ac.be), en indiquant le thème et une courte description de la proposition, et si possible déjà une liste d'intervenants potentiels. Tant des session des communications que des panels peuvent être proposés. Le Comité Scientifique évaluera les propositions.

L'appel à communications (papiers, panels de discussion, posters) sera lancé en janvier 2017 et la date-limite pour le dépôt des propositions de communication sera fixé à la fin du mois de mars.

Inscription

L'inscription au congrès sera ouverte avec la seconde circulaire, au début de 2017. Nous souhaitons limiter le plus possible le montant de l'inscription, de manière à encourager une large participation, en particulier celle des étudiants et des jeunes chercheurs.

Nous espérons pouvoir limiter les coûts d'inscription autour de 280 € au tarif normal et autour de 140 € pour les étudiants et les jeunes chercheurs.

Les sociétés de géographie membres d'EUGEO auront aussi la possibilité d'offrir une ou deux bourses à de jeunes chercheurs, couvrant leurs frais d'inscription et de transport.
