OUR 2016 SEASON BEGINS!

Farm Store & CSA Opening Day

farm2tableNEWS

Our seasonal Farm Store re-opens on Friday, May 20, where we will be selling additional Glynwood produce, eggs and meat a la carte. Hours of operation coincide with CSA pick-up times (see below), and on Saturdays, from 9am to 12:30pm. A curated selection of products from other Hudson Valley farms and food purveyors will also be for sale.

The first of our CSA pick-ups this season is on Tuesday, May 31. Pick-up hours at Glynwood are 3-6pm on Tuesdays or Fridays, with a 24-hour grace period. We also offer a pick-up option for CSA shares at the Garrison Café on Tuesdays between 4-6pm, with a grace period until 3pm on Wednesdays (at Glynwood).

Today is the last day for winter sales at our Farm Office (the Dairy), with sales resuming on May 20 at the Farm Store.

As part of our Public Programs, visitors are invited to take a self-guided tour of our historic property during Farm Store hours. Annotated maps are available free of charge.

Location: The Farm Store is adjacent to our CSA demonstration field, just before the Main House and our Administrative offices. Please adhere to traffic regulations on Glynwood Road and our 20 MPH speed limit.

Volunteer Dirt Days

Glynwood's volunteer Dirt Days are opportunities for CSA members and the community at-large to assist our vegetable team with the necessary maintenance of our crops, while gaining hands-on experience. Anyone and everyone is welcome! Our first event of the season, "Weed Wars," is on Sunday, June 6, at 1:00 pm. Vegetable Production Manager Jarret Nelson will provide a quick introduction to the labor-intensive techniques that are particular to controlling weeds in an organic system, then to work!

Additional Dirt Days are scheduled for July 17, September 25 and October 10. For more information, contact Jarret directly.

Truly Farm-to-Plate Dinner: June 9

Every year, at the peak of our growing season, Glynwood showcases the young men and women who bring our food from farm to plate, literally. For our June Farm Dinner, on Thursday, June 9, guest chef Ian Auger will prepare a multi-course meal comprised of seasonal, locally sourced farm products, including our own. Our current class of apprentices will be the guests of honor at an event that is truly farm-to-plate!

Auger is the chef at franny’s, a beloved Italian eatery and pizzeria located in Brooklyn that is strongly committed to sustainable agriculture and renewable energy. He started working at a local restaurant in Rochester, NY, after graduating from the University of Rochester, which inspired his decision to attend the International Culinary Center. Since moving to New York City, Ian has worked in the kitchens of Parish Hall, Blue Hill NY, and Blue Hill at Stone Barns.

Save the Date: Food + Farm Day, July Farm Dinner

Last year we amplified our annual Open House to include more fun, food and music than previously known. We even changed the name! This year, we've moved Hudson Valley Food + Farm Day to Saturday, July 16, and added our first-ever Burger Night as the July Farm Dinner that same day. Join us for daytime festivities, with the option to stay that evening for an al fresco meal. More information will be provided over the coming weeks...

Hudson Valley Cider + Cheese Tasting and Market: June 4

HV C C TastingMarket

Cider and cheese are both delicious, of course, but their affinity runs deeper than appeal. They enhance the value of the products grown by farmers, taking apples and milk and increasing their worth, thus strengthening the economic viability of farming.

Join us on Saturday, June 4, in Hudson, NY, for the first-ever Hudson Valley Cider + Cheese Tasting and Market, produced in partnership with Basilica Hudson, where more than 20 craft cider makers will sample and sell a variety of styles of hard cider, and ten cheese makers will sample and sell their products.

The event serves to kick-off this year's Cider Week Hudson Valley.

Farmer Training Workshops

Silvopasturing, May 18

Instructor: Jason Detzel, Cornell Cooperative Extension-Ulster County
Depending on your property, you may have significant acreage that could boost productivity for particular enterprises. Silvopasturing is the practice of combining forestry and the grazing of domesticated animals in a mutually beneficial way. Like your pastures, these often neglected areas can be managed intensively to grow out a single species, or different species in succession. In this workshop we will discuss how to evaluate your property, the species that are appropriate for silvopasturing, and how to monitor your plot for efficiency and health of stock. Wear sturdy boots and farm clothes. Suggested reading. FREE.

For more information and to register, please visit Farm Skills Workshops on our website.

Farm Business Incubator: Now Accepting Applications

We are now accepting proposals from farmers interested in applying to the 2017-2018 season of our Hudson Valley Farm Business Incubator, located at Mohonk Preserve in New Paltz, New York. We welcome proposals for grass-based livestock production and diverse farm businesses, including agroforestry. Priority enterprises include pigs, sheep, goats or poultry, as they are complementary to our current roster of start-up businesses and well-suited to the Incubator property.

Keep Putnam Farming

Earlier this week, the Putnam County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board released comprehensive data on the current state of Putnam County’s agricultural landscape. Published in partnership with Glynwood, the Board's Keep Putnam Farming report is the culmination of two years of convenings, research and surveys and serves to inform the County and local municipalities on opportunities, challenges and strategies to cultivate and embolden its food and farming sector. The full report is available in the Explore Our Resources section of our website.

For everyone’s safety, please adhere to our STRICT 20 MPH speed limit on Glynwood Road, parts of which are one-way only. Farming vehicles and incoming cars always have the right of way.
