CG NEWS & EVENTS

Vacation Bible School Postponed

As you may know from email or Facebook, we have had to make a change to our summer schedule. Due to low enrollment, we regretfully announce that we will be postponing (not cancelling) Abundance Orchard Vacation Bible School. If you helped spread the word and invited people to VBS - thanks again! Please take a moment and share this information with them, letting them know we would love to see them in the fall!

Bible School is a beloved and long-standing tradition at Common Ground Church Community and we want to be sure we do it effectively. Rather than pressing forward and holding VBS because "it's what we've always done," we are looking at new ideas. There is so much good in Bible School...so many connections are made...faith is strengthened and renewed...we absolutely do not want to lose this important opportunity. We want kids and staff to get as much out of VBS as possible and, as this year's tagline says, have a great experience "where faith grows and hungry people are fed."

In the last decade, many churches have found that the familiar method of five days of VBS during summer just isn't working for everyone. Some churches have tried new approaches and some have chosen to do away with it entirely. We do not want to give up the excitement, joy, and learning of VBS at Common Ground! We do want to know what works for our church families and friends and learn how we can best get people involved. So please ponder the following questions and email your answers to us, or talk to Jen L.

1) Is VBS of interest to you and/or your kids?
2) Would you and/or your kids participate in VBS on Wednesday evenings in the fall?
3) Would you and/or your kids participate in VBS on Sunday evenings in the fall?
4) Would your family enjoy a Family Bible School, with parents participating with the kids?
5) What do you think is most important about VBS?

If you have donated items, money, or helped create decorations, your time, generosity, and talent will not go to waste. We thank you again for your help. We will put the things away (saving some in the freezer) and they will be used for their intended purposes. If you loaned us items and would like them back sooner rather than later, please let us know and we will make sure to return them.

We are very sorry to inconvenience and disappoint anyone. We are disappointed ourselves, and a bit sad, but also eager to see what God has planned for us here. We will rely on God, and remember the words of Isaiah 41:10, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Thank you for your time and your prayers as we strive to choose the best path for all.

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
