Kara Haas Describes GTD Sports Conditioning

"It’s a steamy morning in July. Stations are set up. Coaches are directing the exercises. Bodies are sweating and working hard under the hot sun. Welcome to the Going the Distance summer conditioning program.

"Smiles abound, amidst the sweat. The concept behind the program is to teach different disciplines for agility, quickness, balance, and strength. No sport is excluded – it is for all sports, and the drills and stations are tailored to be both sport and age specific.

"From the youngest group to the oldest, the underlying theme is 'what can we do to improve ourselves' either for a sport or for the sake of fitness itself. Even with the youngest group, the message rings loud and clear to the athletes: 'it’s not where you start, but where you finish.'

"The stations include drills worthy of Patriots training camp: speed ladders, form drills, core and strength circuits, and explosive speed intervals. They are presented at the appropriate age and skill level for each group of young athletes."

XC Registration

"In the last part of each session, we usually will do a lot of hurdle mobility, core strengthening, plyometrics, and medicine ball work. I really enjoy this part of each practice because it gives runners a chance to focus on certain things that many may tend to exclude in their regular season workouts.." [Marissa Farago]
