Advanced Manufacturing Field Trips for Educators

Educators of the Western Upper Peninsula had the opportunity to visit advanced manufacturing facilities this summer.

Participants received a first-hand look on how STEM skills, including computer science, are used in our community, what skill sets employers are looking for and what job opportunities are available in our region. We had a lot of fun visiting these facilities, talking with the employees, and learning about advanced manufacturing. Thank you to all the educators that joined us and thank you to the businesses for hosting us!

Join us for the last experience of the summer at Somero in Houghton on August 7! Registration Link

Austin Hoffman - REMC1 Support Technician

Austin, raised in L'Anse, Michigan, has always had a passion for technology sparked by playing video games on the Nintendo Wii as a young child. As a high school student, he participated in L’Anse’s computer networking class and CTE Work-based Learning, and an internship with REMC1 SupportNet. After four years of working as an intern, he is now a Support Technician in the REMC1 SupportNet Help Desk. Beyond technology, Austin enjoys drawing, video games, exercise, and continuously learning new skills. He is always eager to hear about others' passions, finding inspiration in their enthusiasm.
