[Online symposium] Informalisation of the EU’s external action in the fields of migration and asylum

On Friday June 26, the Municipality of The Hague and T.M.C. Asser Instituut convened the online closing plenary of the 2020 virtual annual meeting of the American Society of International Law (ASIL). DILEMA research project on military AI formally started

This month, the DILEMA research project on Designing international law and ethics into military artificial intelligence formally started. The project explores interdisciplinary perspectives on military AI, with a focus on legal, ethical, and technical perspectives on safeguarding human agency over military AI. The project will be led by Asser senior researcher Dr Berenice Boutin. Read more here.


[Lex sportiva] New publications on transnational sports law

Asser senior researcher Dr Antoine Duval has recently authored several publications in the field of transnational sports law, also known as lex sportiva. The publications include topics such as lex sportiva in theory and in practice and the effectiveness of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Read more here.

On Tuesday 13 October, The Hague Initiative for Armed Conflict (HILAC) will organise an online lecture on 'Military necessity and the law of armed conflict.' Professor Nobuo Hayashi will talk about military necessity. How do law and theory adapt themselves to war's evolutions? Read more here.

On 24 September, the Asser Institute co-hosted an online expert panel with the UN Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) on missing persons and memory governance.
