Bis-Man Transit Board Wanted The Public Health Building

Discussion at the July 12th, 2016 Bismarck City Commission Meeting shows that Bismarck-Mandan Transit Board was indeed interested in the City's Public Health Building prior to the deal with U-Mary.

July 13th, 2016

It's been a while since the last update on the Bismarck Boondoggle, but there is fresh news on the situation.

Yesterday at the Bismarck City Commission Meeting it was disclosed that the Bis-Man Transit Board (which is publicly funded by federal, state, county, and city taxpayer funds) was extremely interested in turning the city's Public Health Building into its "Transit Hub" for both Bismarck and Mandan.

The video of this discussion can be found here.

While a lack of a federal grant is cited for why the Transit Board was not able to secure funding for their intended purpose of the property, taxpayers should ask why the city would rather sell the property at a loss to a non-profit religiously-affiliated school than help another entity that already receives taxpayer dollars make their plan work?

The issue is now immediate as Ben Ehreth, president of the board for Bis-Man Transit Board, stated that the outdoor Transit Hub on Kirkwood Mall property has this week been told they need to relocate immediately.

The Bismarck City Commission oversees the Bis-Man Transit Authority,

Why was there not better communication and planning on all of this?

Why are taxpayers being asked to fund Bis-Man Transit more, while the City of Bismarck is being an obstacle to their own operations and long range plans?

These local government entities need to have better communications, and understand each others goals better.

And the Bismarck City Commission needs to put publicly funded services above private developers and grand schemes for downtown.
