Piatt County History Spotlight:
William F. Lodge was a conservationist, contractor, and prominent business man in Monticello. He was born November 12, 1863 in Monticello to William E. and Frances A. Piatt Lodge. After graduating from the local high school he attended the University of Illinois and later entered the law department of Northwestern University where he graduated with the class of 1892. He returned to Monticello and joined his father as a member of the firm Lodge, Hicks, and Lodge. William Lodge also started a brick and tile plant north of Monticello and was an organizer of the Monticello Mutual Telephone Company.

The Allerton Public Library District will again host AARP Free Tax Preparation Services for Anyone/Any Age on Thursdays (5-7pm) and Saturdays (9am-noon) from Feb. 5 to April 14, 2018. Appointments Preferred. Some Walk-In's as time permits. Call (217) 762-4676 to schedule your appointment.

Beginning Monday, February 5, 2018 a group of dedicated AARP Tax Aide Volunteers will offer free income tax preparation at the library.

Those interested should CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT at (217) 762-4676. Appointments will be inside the Library on Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (with a possibility of some appointments running over specified times.)

YOU MUST HAVE WITH YOU: 1) Proof of identification (Photo ID) for BOTH Taxpayer and Spouse. 2) Social Security Card(s) for you, your spouse, and dependents; or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration. AND 3)A copy of last year's federal and state tax returns

The Library hosts free Adult Programs throughout the year for the education and entertainment of our Adult Patrons. If you would like to volunteer to give a presentation or have an idea for one of our Adult Programs, please contact the Library. Check the Online Calendar for scheduled programs that begin with "Adult..."

Have your library tech questions answered on the first Friday of the month.

BINGO @ the Library - March 12 @ 2pm. Adults (18+) are welcome to attend. Small prizes are awarded.

COMMUNITY SCAN DAY - March 16, 2-4:30pm Appointments are encouraged for this free, monthly event. Bring in your historical photos to share with the Library and Community.

SPRING INTO SPRING with Paper Flower Crafts - March 21 @ 2pm. Learn simple folds to make gorgeous flowers. Please register at 217-762-4676.

2018 TEEN ART SHOW MARCH 22-29. Open to the public during normal Library hours.

DELAND-WELDON MEMORY ALBUM PRESENTATION by Charylene Fisher Taylor - March 24 @2pm. A collection of Deland-Weldon obituary albums dating back to the 1890s.

SPRING KIDS READ IN SCHOOLS DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH. Preschool and Kindergarten students will come home with a book for their home library.

CRAZY 8s CLUB - Tuesdays, March 6 - May 1 @4pm. (No session during Spring Break, 3/27). 3rd to 5th Graders can register to play games, design, create each week; all with an underlying math/science theme. Space is limited so please register and plan on attending most sessions of this fun filled after-school program. Register at 217-762-4676 or info@monticellolibrary.org.
